Should Mage get dispel Magic

Yup let me just rebuff my 3 minute cooldown the mage just stole, so easy.

You clearly have no clue why spellsteal was so broken and oppressive. Its NOT JUST A DISPEL

Yes it does, because there’s no point of commonality, just like there’s no point of commonality between an offensive spell steal and a defensive magic dispell.

Any paladin that knows what they’re doing isn’t going to let a mage spellsteal wings lol

yah, because they arent going to push the button if a mage is around… EVER

Hence spellsteals very existence (not even using the button) means a paladin doesnt get to use an offensive cooldown.

Keep thinking that I guess, I’m only referring to PvP up to Wrath by the way… anything after that is junk.

Any Paladin that knows what they’re doing isn’t going to let a mage spellsteal their wings (while using it in opportune situations) lmao

It makes sense that a class that focuses on the use of magic of an arcane flavor would know how to counter magic in general. The lore in Classic is weird, though. Human priests are told that the arcane is their greatest enemy.

That would ruin PvP for many classes, such a busted spell.

Crazy how Priest dispel goes right over your head

I am not arguing that offensive dispel isnt a problem as well, it is very powerful and imo should not be a spammable ability.

But to put it on a higher pedestal then spellsteal is just incorrect.

If you removed spell steal from a mage they’d be perfectly fine, if you removed dispel from priest they’d be the biggest trashcan known to man. I don’t think any high level classic PvPer would agree with that statement

That is an unfair comparison to gauge a single spells power level.

You have ‘peach’ in your name, surely you know about fruit. A Prius is a car, not a fruit.

And not to derail this important conversation but ive drawn a parallel of my own: ive noticed that whenever i have many nearly consecutive bursts of foul-smelling flatus that I have a bowel movement soon thereafter. Im almost positive theres a correlation.

True but is says something, I’ve just never had a problem dealing with Spellsteal versus Priest dispel which just makes you not want to play the game. All forms of offensive dispels need a mechanic like Arcane Blast.

I dont disagree with the fact that spamming offensive (or even defensive) dispels shouldnt have some sort of penalty. They are incredibly powerful spells and the fact they are spammable is (imo) a problem. Especially because for some classes it completely invalidates them.

Spellsteal is similar in the fact that it completely invalidates some classes, but whats worse is it swings the pendulum twice as far in the opposite direction, instead of just setting it back to neutral.

I proposed a change long ago that dispels should also cost a portion of the removed spells mana cost. Also there needs to be more dispel punish mechanics (especially when it comes to offensive dispel) (aka unstable affliction) so just mashing the button with no thought isnt a thing.

mage main for 20 years off and on, dispel would be wildly overpowered. Spellsteal would be less overpowered if it still cost like 120% base mana or w.e it was in previous editions. I don’t think there is any class that gets a 50 second CC + an offensive magic dispel. Not rogues with sap, not mages with blink. If you add it I’ll gladly enjoy the OPness while it lasts.

it’s already in the game greater decurse just no clue what phase

It makes sense for mages to have friendly dispels as a healer; I’d just be wary of giving them spellsteal too (unless the mana cost was high enough that you can’t just spam it)

i see the need on why mages on horde should get it. I’d give it but add a cooldown and cheap cost, or expensive and no cooldown. not interested in spellsteal unless we start adding dispel protection too which is just too much of a mess
