Should light be forced?

We all know what is good and what is bad in life, What is right and what is wrong in any given situation, and yet we don’t always do the right things. Smoking is bad. Exercise is good. Reading books is good while watching too much T.V. is bad. Eating 3 times a day is good. Chocolate and Ice cream is not a meal, dinner first then dessert. Drugs are bad. You have to brush your teeth before going to bed…etc. The list is endless, and we all know these too.

If we lived our lives doing all the right things, we would’ve got straight A+ in school, gotten real good jobs and been rich with perfect health…etc… but most of us are not those.

Sometimes, I feel like the light must be forced.

Of course. How else can we resist the forceful conversion to the light.

Silly Paladin.

No it shouldn’t.

Signed,

Your friendly Goblin Holy Priestess

No one is that.

Sure, why not. What could possibly go wrong.

Seriously, nothing should ever be forced. Ingame and IRL, nothing should ever be forced on someone/anyone.

Let people come to whatever life holds on their own. We’re all on our own little personal journeys here and there’s a learning curve and it’s steep for everyone.
Let everyone find their way.

Also, you know all those really wealthy people? I mean insanely wealthy?

Not one of them did that alone and quite a few did it illegally. Not derailing, just putting some perspective on real life.

Illidan is a prime example of Naaru privilege, even though he was the victim everyone wanted to kill Illidan for defending himself… Someone needs to teach Naaru and paladins that no means no. #metoo

If you’re forcing something, then that isn’t fate.

What a rational and logical argument. I’m pretty sure such things have no place on GD threads.

You can find lights from my eyes.

No,even if you’re a product of it forcing anything is totally wrong. If i were to force one of many aspects of human nature on ,let’s say an elf’s belief system ,I would surely be seen as a threat to that culture. It can backfire .

I don’t like X’era too much for what she tried to do. The Light is supposed to be accepting and about redemption, not forcing your ideas on people. For one, Illidan had a satisfying moral compass, not going to say he had a bright one but it was one that was right. No work was needed. He was in no need for redemption. I can’t blame Turalyon for trying to strike at Illidan, as stupid as it was, because it seemed to him that X’era was an embodiment of hope throughout thousands of years.

A’dal did not do anything to the Scryers, and only started to make moves against Illidan and Kael after Kael under Illidan’s banner was hostile with Shattrath to fool everyone into being another of Illidan’s enemies.

I’m not going to deny however the obvious fact that if the Light has the ability to harm as well as heal, that it does make offensive actions. If something cannot be redeemed, it must be destroyed in a merciful manner, like the Legion.

“The Light has struck a bargain with the enemy of all”

It’s been popular lore across games that a balance of different elements are needed to maintain life. Light just happens to be one of them. By itself, it is just a neutral font of power. What makes it good or evil is how it is wielded.

Enlightenment is an achievement, not a gift you can give or a rule you can enforce.

Darling, Forcing people is for the most part not good.

No. If something we learn by Lady Liadrin  when the Sunwell was restored, is that forcing the Light is not a good a thing, and that you can feel a lot a good things trough a friendly relation with the Light.

Prophet Velen says: Gaze now, mortals - upon the HEART OF M’URU! Unblemished. Bathed by the light of Creation - just as it was at the Dawn.

The heart of M’uru disintegrates and flows into the Sunwell. The Sunwell reignites in a fount of blinding light.

Prophet Velen says: In time, the light and hope held within - will rebirth more than this mere fount of power… Mayhap, they will rebirth the soul of a nation.

Lady Liadrin says: Blessed ancestors! I feel it… so much love… so much grace… there are… no words… impossible to describe…

Prophet Velen says: Salvation, young one. It waits for us all.

Prophet Velen says: Farewell…

No, because if you force anything on anyone, you’re taking away their freedom to choose between right and wrong. That is not a good thing to do.

And, in this game, even if the Light were forced on every single person, that wouldn’t be a good thing. The Light is just another type of magic, it’s not an all-powerful, righteous God. You can believe you’re doing the right thing by murdering and trafficking Horde children and use the Light. You can be a twisted person who uses the Light solely because you believe in what you’re doing. It’s not an inherently good force.
