Should leveling be more difficult in retail?

Unfortunately, in a game that’s been around a long time, new players want to get to max level quickly to play with other folks that are at max level.

Leveling should be awesome and an experience in itself, but this is just the reality of things.

Again, don’t confuse difficulty with tedium. Leveling was a test of patience, not of skill.

Perhaps 2 shots on a mob to level 20, however, to level 50 is an exaggeration, just saying.

No.

Good.

Good. Should be until 70 and beyond.

I prefer using as few abilities as possible.

This isn’t a problem for anyone but raiders. I don’t care what raiders want.

You lost me here. I don’t do keys and never will.

Leveling is tedious and boring. Playing an incomplete class doesn’t feel very fun, leave it alone.

Is your intention to announce to the entire thread that you don’t read the posts to which you reply?

You said “Then go play Classic” but Merpish didn’t praise classic. They just said leveling was never hard (even in Classic), and it wasn’t.

Leveling wasn’t meant to be hard, yes I tried Classic didn’t like it so I play retail.

If I wanted to spend forever trying to kill things I’ll go play Classic.

I didn’t care for classic’s pacing back in 2004. I tolerated it because it was considerably better than other MMOs like Final Fantasy XI, but as you indicated already, retail WoW is much better than Classic when it comes to gameplay and quality of life in general.

Yep. step 1, as I see it, is stop gear deprecation.

Only latest gear gets set/tier bonuses in retail. set bonuses turned off for everything else.

this is one of the few interesting things of classic leveling. for me it was damn, this gear ain’t for a mog. 3 pieces champion. work for them, get this bonus. see the bonus…and go yeah I’d like this. lets get to work.

Issue…they can’t balance this well in retail. BFA showed that. the rise of the 115 twink leveling services. hey 119, having issues. I can fix that went the 115’s. even non lego. how scaling worked, the 115’s hit harder lol. Legion lego’s jsut made this even more fun.

why they turn everything off except latest expac. they can barely balance even latest gear lol.

Imagine the fun of leveling pvp in retail if wrath deadly/savage/etc bonuses still worked. or even tbc brutal.

One time in classic as I was about to 80 out the 71 to 79 bracket a fresher crappier geared new 71 rogue jumped me. the dude could not hurt me. he could cc me, about it. he saw that, final cc and opted to try and run away. I let him. I had a tower to save. Don’t fight on roads is the way I live lol.

full brutal (ergo its set bonus), gemmed up so those pieces side bonuses turned on. all boosted up is why he was wasting his time.

even now kind of meh loom gear in retail does not offer this. Old set bonuses turned on…there would not be enough popcorn in the world for those threads on twinks.

Professions are the new leveling difficulty

Nah, difficulty isn’t my issue. Leveling in general in most expansions feel outdated and just not engaging at all. But not from a difficulty point of view for me, just once you do a few things, you’ve done it all. Kill X, Get Y, Turn In Quest, move on.

Again, I enjoyed being able to handle a pull I knew I shouldn’t have been able to with my tool kit and the environment.

Your opinion of tedium is just that, your opinion. The fact was it was a more challenging experience. For many of us, that made it more immersive.

No. Things have changed where people just want to get to max level to do the actual relevant content.

Classic is that way if you want it back to how it was

For some people I think this is true. I just started a mag’har monk and realized yesterday that in less than a week I was level 57 and soon to be stuck in the new content that I’ve leveled 4 characters through in the last two months. Was a feeling of disappointment more than excitement. “The journey” just doesn’t exist much in WoW anymore.

I’ve been advocating for a hardcore leveling challenge and one life isn’t a challenge in retail leveling. My suggestion is a debuff that increases damage taken by 200% and also ends the challenge if you die.

I support multiple methods of leveling in the game for sure. Maybe Blizzard will support it one day.

Op, everything is scaled while leveling, why make it difficult? Sure some wouldn’t know about interrupts some wouldn’t know too much of anything in this game right now as afar we gone. Yet they still could learn it throughout the game if they played SOLO grouping in some cases doesn’t help them use the spell because others would jump in.

Btw, we do have a training instance to learn from ,can’t recall it right now it’s in panderia.

First…I must not be playing the right classes where you can 2-shot every mob…even in heirlooms…unless you twinked the ever lovin’ out of them with every best enhancement possible?

But, mainly. CHOICE in leveling…which we do, in fact, have.
At any time, a player can choose to only wear grays/whites.
At any time, a player can set an ironman condition on themselves.
At any time, a player can twink the dingus out of heirlooms.
At any time, a player can do other interesting things.
A player could even, gasp, choose to continue questing even if they’re not gaining any xp and experience those stories.

Choice. You want harder or easier, then you have the choice to do it for yourself.

If you don’t choose to make it harder…well…that’s on you, not on another player who chooses easy, or shorter, or longer, or whatever.
