Should Legendaries go back to just being a really rare drop rather than their current design which is, do a tons of quests and you will definitely get them?
Idk, in my opinion the old designs sounded better, and make them more special, but the current design, not only makes so nearly everyone can have them, but it also makes the thing mandatory to have.
Some may compare this to Forging, but its not the same, since Forging pretty much removed BIS entirely and sense of real progress, while the old Legendaries was just some random drop that was really cool to have
I’m kinda ambivalent on the subject. I do really like having a long series of quests in order to complete a legendary because it helps maintain that RPG feel. On the other hand, there are plenty of times where it makes sense for a legendary to be a random drop, like with the warglaives.
The issue with them being rare drops is that people feel gimped if they are not lucky enough to get one. While super rare drops for important things like weapons were great 15 years ago, I don’t think the majority of players like that idea now.
I’m up in the air about legendary gear. I don’t think they will ever go back to how they used to be either. With Blizzard making raiding not the only place to get gear and making WoW more casual I don’t think they’ll ever really tie legendary gear back to raiding only.
On one hand I liked the older style of raid drops and long questlines. Seeing someone have the legendary was pretty awesome too, knowing how much work went into it. It did suck though knowing you’d most likely never get it.
MoP and WoD did them pretty good too. Let everyone do a long quest chain to get one eventually. I think MoP had the best system personally.
I didn’t like Legion’s legendary system because of the RNG, but it felt good when you got one you really wanted.
I think Shadowlands looks promising depending on timegating and RNG elements. I really hope some good story is involved though instead of just crafting some gear after you farm the tower forever.
I prefer getting a Legendary in Legion that I didn’t want but can still equip and get a benefit from, to never getting an Essence in BFA because I don’t want to level a rep to Exalted that I already did on another character.
Especially once you factor in targeted legendaries from late-expansion.
You know, I’m not sure… I didn’t like having to grind in order to keep them current… or to continually grind to get the latest and greatest like in Legion… But the old way had its issues as well, in that the guild would grind to help someone get one and then they’d disappear or just out and out quit playing… Then you’d have to start over again.
All in all, IMO both systems sucked. On the one hand you have one person getting it and everyone else left out… on the other you’re personally on the hook to be on that mouse wheel or you’re left behind.
Hyperbole is just a way to say “I am lying, but don’t call me out on it”.
Hard for me to figure out the point of your post when its based on factual inaccurate information. You prefer getting a legendary you can equip, to not having access to an essence unless you get exalted rep.
Well thankfully the second scenario will never happen. Yay for us.
I didnt like legendaries being rare drops. I found the long questlines for them to be more appealing. Shadowmourne questline is my favorite questline out of every questline in the game. Just felt special forging your weapon over a long period and gathering up resources and souls to forge and infuse it. And there was a nice little deathcharger mount at the end as well.
That is one way to look at it but some people look at legendary items being legendary because of their lore not the rarity of the item. I want to say that is the current take on legendary items.
Im confused has it changed betwee. Expansions? Is grey and white not common, green kinda rare, blue rare, and purple epic? Wasnt the terminology used to distinguish between rarities?
I would say yes and no. The colors do distinguish between the rarities but I don’t think Legendary items where just about how rare they were in that since. They have always been strong lore items in my opinion.
Just making sure. It looks like we disagree and thats fine.
I do believe it should go back to how it was. It made processions more applicable, and the quest lines were extremely engaging. Having your guild work hard and together to get Thunderfurry was truly a legendary experience.
