I think it makes sense. KM makes the next obl crit and do 100% frost damage. With the changes to talents, I think it be cool if they made crit chance also increase the damage when using the KM procs.
Thoughts?
Also, side note, seeing the warrior talent tree really makes me wish older DK skills talents ect were also brought back.

hmm, that would be a good way of not reducing the value of crit chance i suppose. can’t say if i know it’s balanced or not.

Most 100% crit abilies do get crit chance to damage, so I am all for it. Having killing machine increase the damage of the crit would be good, still hits less than a templars verdict or mortal strike though.
66% Obliterate vs 194% Templars Verdict vs 174% Mortal strike of attack power damage. People will probably say, “But you can spam 3 of them in a row” True we can, that’s still only 198% AP physical damage at the cost of 3 GCDs. Templars Verdict bypasses armour as holy damage and Mortal strike can be used every 6 sec and also reduces healing by 50% and if either of those abilities crit, the ability called Obliterate, looks very very weak in comparison.

If I had it my way, I would completely revamp frost and UH dks in general, but I doubt they will be doing that ever at this point. OBL in general It think should be frost damage regardless, whether it was KM proc or not.

Not a fan of pure frost damage cause that means rogues can cloak all my damage. Obliterate should be a strong physical damage and crits should cause X% of that damage done as additional Frost damage.

hmm, true. I actually really like your idea of making crits for it do X amount more. Add that with Crit increases damage of KM procs and you may just have chunky obl again.

Then Obliterate would be nerfed yet again making the baseline even worse because now it scales with 2 secondaries and it would feel even worse early expansions like so many are forgetting SL when KM rank 2 was introduced, Obliterate damage took a dive because of it, and pre-patch and early SL, even late SL lets be completely honest, had people wanting baseline Obliterate buffs. Having it scale off of crit chance wouldnt benefit anything but end of expansion gameplay.
Just like the 4pc as a talent would only really be beneficial at end of expansion like it is now. Early on with low crit and it would be useless. You wouldnt be getting as many KM procs, dont have the 2pc increasing crit chance by 8% and everything would just be flops.
For meaty Obliterates I would rather our mastery just change. Frost damage increase is boring. Having something like Frost Fever make armor brittle would be better slowly throughout the expansion bring Obliterate damage up to basically being magic damage (and auto attacks and anything else we have that is physical damage). Have something else in there as well, something to do with Runic Power possible, then once at 100% mastery your entire kit scales with strength and versatility. Everything, it doesnt matter if something is shadow damage, or whatever other kind of damage, wouldnt have to have things made into shadowfrost damage and all of that, and it would also bring us back to being a death knight again.
If scaling with crit instead of mastery on km proc allows the base damage to go up, i’m all for it. I think obliterate needs to be less swingy and just be a consistently solid hitting ability, but it’s too spammable with all of our resource generation and km procs currently multiply it too much. Also they could make it interact with something like diseases or razorice, or give it a cooldown, or change mastery.

I don’t get this “it’s too spammy” thing, sure you CAN use 3 in a row, but as I said above, 3 non critical obliterates do less damage than one Templars verdict. 3 global’s for 198% AP damage, or 3 global for TV - Crusader Strike - TV is 464% AP in 3 global’s.
KM critical would barely even take it’s damage past baseline Templars verdict non crits.
194% AP TV non crit vs 205% KM crit both bypass armour also.
Example.
66% AP * 1.2 (imp obliterate) * 2(crit) * 1.3(30% mastery) = 205% AP Frost dam with KM.
The problem is the guaranteed crit. Make Killing Machine increase damage by X% and deal lure frost damage, Obliterate deals physical damage baseline and adjust AP coefficients accordingly.
Making it 125% AP with imp obliterate (20% dam) and a KM proc would give us 195% AP damage, just a bit more than TV.

Are you factoring in armor with that?
No, that’s just pure physical damage. it just highlights that with the change to KM from 100% crit to just bonus damage, they could aggressively increase the baseline damage without making it TOO strong.
So if we had Obliterate deal physical normally, a bit of extra Frost damage on a crit and KM increasing the damage of that Obliterate baseline. We could see scaling from mastery/crit.
It’s a win win.
