I have an old frost mage sitting in a deleted bucket. Reading the forums here sounds depressing. Are you guys having fun with your Mages or did most of you switch classes already?
im loving fire, despite knowing its going to be nerfed soon, if youre not stuck on going frost
Nope. Just go spriest or warlocks.
Depends,
Do you want to be an epic gamer and be the best of the best and do world firsts? Then avoid mage until they are buffed.
Do you want to be a cool mage in a cute wizard hat and just have a good time. Totally go mage.
I’m personally more of a fan of playing something you enjoy, despite how good or bad it is during a certain patch.
My boyfriend is an arcane mage and he says your transmog gives you 60% more fun per second.
If it will be a casual character then why not give it a try? Even poorly tuned you can still have fun moments out in the open world. Then when, hopefully, the buffs come along you’ll have a character with some progress knocked out for leveling and basic covenant stuff.
Plus with Shadowlands ground travel being kind of annoying, it is nice to know I can just teleport back to Oribos for a quick flight. Forget having to ride through several packs of mobs just to reach a flight point.
Plus there are some rather nice looking artifact transmogs from Legion that can still be obtained while waiting for spec buffs.
A sheep staff that suggests letting allies go without summoned food has to be worth at least 10% more fun per second!
I’m having a blast with my fire mage. Frost is depressing though, and I don’t know about arcane.

If you plan to play competitively in raid scenario, avoid mages.
All specs are not doing well in raids right now. For mythic+ fire mage is maybe top 4 dps only below mm hunter rogues and balance druid but in raids, fire mage is bottom half and the other 2 specs are even lower
