Should I purchase the War Within expansion

A little over a month ago I returned to WoW after a layoff of about 2 years. I have a monthly subscription. My main character is a DK which I have now reached lvl 70. So I have a few questions: 1) to be able to advance past lvl 70 do I need to purchase the War Within expansion?, 2) Does the lvl 70 boost apply to only to that character which is below lvl 70?, 3) Will I be able to fly using my mounts in the expansion or will I still be limited as I am right now? Thanks

Yes.

Why would you use a 70 boost on a level 70? Honestly curious.

How are you limited right now?

From level 10 you get Skyriding automatically. Level 20 you get the steady flight toggle. The new Zones (TWW) you can only Skyride until you do Pathfinder TWW to get the steady flight toggle.

It’s better as a gift, but yea, you should pick up War Within.

The game is always more interesting in the current expansion.

As far as the lvl 70 boost, I thought it was the case that it would apply to a lower lvl but just wanted to make sure. Like I said it has been 2 years since I played and just starting to get my feet wet. A lot has changed since I played

A good question is if Pathfinder is required for older (pre-DF) expansions to use any flying? That’d be WoD through SL.

Can’t recall with SL exactly (the only one I had outstanding before returning to the game myself after a long break), but I think that was the case for that expansion… but I had it sorted out before the TWW pre-patch, so no idea if skyriding being made available everywhere allows that requirement to be bypassed.

If you want to buy the expansion, by all means do so.

However, it is not exactly a “great” expansion so far. Just trying to set expectations here.

The leveling experience is ok.
You can fly everywhere from the get go.
And gearing is fairly easy at least up to the mid-point, which is just above average for getting into all end-game content.

But, that’s about it.

I do know though that you get flying automatically at level 10 for all zones, then 20 it’s steady flight toggle, exception may be DF, I’m pretty sure you get Skyriding at 10 as my alt account (EU) can skyride in DF but before level 10 could not fly.

When I reached lvl 70 all of my flying mounts have I think what is a “Vigor” counter. Which the Vigor empties as I flap the wings but doesn’t do anything as I glide. Kind of different than what I am used to with unlimited flying.

It’s because there are two types of flying now.
“Dragonriding” and “regular static flying”.

You should’ve learned about that while leveling in DF. and you should’ve hunted all the talents for it. You might need to look into that first to fully enjoy it.

On that note, The War Within only allows you to dragonride “Skyride” not static fly.
To static fly, you need to explore the entire map (earn a very diluted and simple “pathfinder” achievement) before you can switch to static flying.

I’d say this is the best expansion yet for getting back into retail WoW, because there is actually viable solo or small-group endgame content (Delves) that doesn’t require you to jump into potentially toxic 5-man PuGs or find the right guild immediately. There are also Follower Dungeons to help you practice your class rotation and learn the new ones added this expansion. Between those two, you’ll be able to play solo and still have a reason to log in every week as you take your time to progress to Tier 8 (Champion/Heroic gear) while you eventually find more steady groups to play with. In addition, we’ll be getting the new season in late February 2025 so everyone will be on a mostly level playing field with the new item levels then.

I’d wait until midway next seasons, just to see where things are going. But you are free to do as you will, with it being on sale I wouldn’t tell you no. Just temper things.

short answer, no.
long answer, absolutely not.

Yes. And that is the default flying until you unlock steady flight. Do you have 4 Vigor bubbles or 6?

If you have done NO DF, you will have 4

Level 10 alt account on EU. No shared achievements regarding Skyriding (Dragonriding)

You will need to collect Glyphs, that will increase your QOL dramatically while Skyriding.

TWW isn’t as good as DF was mostly cus end game is mid this expac, but there’s plenty of fun and collectibles to be had. Story isn’t terrible. 7/10

Tbh…no

Wait til they give it away in 5 or so months.

Blizz is flopping like a fish out of water.

I’m having fun but it depends on what you want to do. :robot::thought_balloon:

If you gonna get it, get it while it’s still on sale

Yes. The $90 epic edition is worth it, and you need the $155 one year sub package with the mounts and pets to go with it.

These options are also in a Skyriding icon within your General tab in your spellbook. I’m not ingame right now to show you, but it should have one of the icons from Caz’s screenshot on it.

Can you do the glyphs via spell book? I don’t think you can. You can access all the spells for your skyriding bar, maybe I’m missing it in my spell book?
