Should i play retail or classic/wotlk?

So ive began playing wow during MOP, and it was a lot different. i like the retail additions etc, but i dont like world quests and M+, raiding is alright, and ive always loved exploring the world back in MOP, remember when i made my first char and wandered around darnassus, should i play the retail version or classic/wotlk?

Why not play both?

Find out for yourself if you like one in preference.

I agree with knee.

I think it’s worth playing both. My recommendations are;

  • Classic:Season of Discovery. It’s a slower building version of classic with fun runes you can collect . There are huge experience boosts on for the older part (1-25) so you can catch up to where people are at now.

  • Retail; Just one heads up about retail when you hit 70 it will feel like 1 million quests at once, I’d recommend the latest patch content for the Emerald Dream then optionally working your way back on the patch stuff.

I don’t see why not.

Do what ever you like.

Raiding isn’t the same. You might not enjoy that as much. Other than that, exploring the world should be fun.

Just keep in mind, chances are Classic will catch right up to the whole M+ bit eventually.

In classic wrath, dailies and gamma dungeons are basically the same thing. Dailies have to take up spots on your quest log and you go to and from a quest giver though so they are kind of universally worse than world quests. Gamma dungeons have no timer but there are affixes and I would say they are about M+10-15 difficulty.

There are objectively more things and places to explore in retail and more options for exploring them. However classic wrath has some zones (that are going to be changed in cata which is coming soon so your chance to see old zones pre-cata like stormwind park is now).

I thought classic at first but retail seems better for your goals (exploration and raiding).

If you want to run a character or two in classic to see the old zones, that’s perfectly fine. You don’t have to only play one and you can always swap back and forth. You might be able to make your retail characters in classic like I did so it doesn’t feel like you’re losing them.
