This is something I’ve been sitting on since the start of S4 of SL.
I like WW Monk because it’s actually interesting to have to press different buttons each time and the burst damage they do is really nice too.
I tried to quest as BM but found the spec quite meh. I did find MW quite fun for the couple of weeks I played the spec back in SL but prefer Resto Druid.
I guess what I’m worried about is that if and when WW gets nerfed, I won’t like Monk as much.
Well, if Blizzard wanted to nerf WW then they would have announced them in the recent tuning update. But it looks like WW dodged the hammer. I guess Blizzard is comfortable with the current state of WW.
Well, for now. My concern isn’t so much that it will get nerfed but rather whether WW will be fun even when they don’t do as much dps as they do now.
I have never switched mains mid-expansion so this is more my concern and I would love to get to know the experiences long time Monk mains have had with the class.
I find monks to be pretty fun regardless, the class is really engaging and it’s combo mastery is a fun concept. More damage if your attack is not a repeat.
I’m almost certain that at some point in the expansion they will have their numbers adjusted in some way, just like all classes will. Your initial post mentioned you like them because of their rotation and burst windows, if you like the game style why not just turn off the DPS meters and just enjoy the ride?
On the other hand, you said you haven’t been having fun with the other two specs, if anything, that should be your reason for choosing another class IMO.
In MoP WW was my favorite melee spec. Through all the expansions in between that hasn’t changed at all. But yeah historically WW starts off really good then they nerf it and all the FoTM players move on to whatever is doing top numbers.
Most people who main WW do so because they love the spec and no other melee plays like it imo.
Unless you’re doing content at the absolute highest tier play whatever you have fun with. Specs get nerfed and buffed all the time. How it feels usually remains the same.
The only reason I’m not maining it anymore is because I’ve been on a ranged dps fixation for the last few expansions. But I’m considering it this expansion because none of the ranged feel very good or exciting to me. If you’re ok with the inevitable nerf WW always seems to get then go for it!
Speculation around future nerfs aside, yes. Just as long as your main interest isn’t tanking.
Fun and (currently) powerful melee spec? Check. Strong throughput healer — particularly in a raid setting? Check. High-skill, low-reward tank spec that’s inexplicably getting nerfed at the start of season one? Well two out of three ain’t bad.
It’s what I’m maining this expac, if only just for playstyle reasons.
I love WW monk but it just feels weak and squishy this expansion. Of the classes I’ve played in DF so far, monk is the one that takes the most damage, by far. It’s not unplayable, and the play style is fun, which is why I wanted to go back to monk this expansion, but the playstyle doesn’t outweigh the squishiness, for me at at least.
I decided to go back and level my WW monk from 60 a few days ago. 60-64 was great; DPS is cranking, but it didn’t feel too squishy. I’m not sure if there was a nerf in the S1 patch, but it felt way more squishy last night and today. It could just be a coincidence. This feels more like SL monk, which I hated purely because of the squish factor. I’m a fat panda with a low pain tolerance.
They probably won’t nerf ww monk because they don’t scale as well as other specs. As everyone else gets gear their damage will go up more than a monks will. Almost every raid tier ww needs to get bandaid buffs because of it towards the end.
