Should i learn to tank, or heal?

trying to broaden my playstyle a bit, gettin a little sick of dps-ing. i have’nt healed since legion, and tanking… i’ve never really done out of nervousness.

i’m trying to decide between learning to tank as a prot-warrior, or a heal resto-druid. so, which do i go with?

Tanking is easy if you can learn your way through a map.

Healing is easy if your group are good, terrible if your group sucks.

tanking is quite fun

I’ve never healed, but I recommend tanking. So much fun. Very different perspective, it’ll teach you many more things to watch for, you’ll pay more attention and have more responsibility, learn pathing routes, you’ll become a better overall player in the long run.

Still, even on my tanks there always seems to be a healer shortage in m+ runs, so I guess the decision lies with you sir.

heck. i’m horrible with directions.

i know, i used to heal back in legion. just… not as a druid, and haven’t really healed since then… pretty-dang rusty now. atleast, i think i am.

Healing is fun. Try resto druid.

It’s always nice to expand your playstyles. Their are 36 specs to play. Tanks can be fun. I suggest leveling a tank or doing normal modes until you feel comfortable.

I played Holy in BfA. Healing is niceee :star_struck:

IMO i dont have the time to learn to tank i wish i did but healing makes me to mad cuz people are stupid

Tanking is harder than healing, tbh I’d learn how to heal first then try tanking after

Learning how to heal is pretty easy too. Just takes a small amount of practice/knowing your rotation well

Nervous to tank? Just yolo your way through. I mean what are they going to do, cry and kick you from the group? Lol ok.

yeah, and i worry about that EVERYTIME i’ve tried to tank, hence my nervousness!

Uh, why? Just join another group, you’re a tank lol.

cause i worry that they’ll kick me too, and it’ll become a pattern of joining and getting kicked until i have a bad rep, and i start getting kicked on sight.

No such thing anymore lol.

If you want to raid, no. If you want to do M+ it’s really fun!

And everything is literally a 3 second queue. Imo healing is 1000x harder.

It requires advanced toolkit use, predicting the fights and knowing the dungeons better than the rest of the team, LoS issues, having a UI addon, having multiple addons that show debuffs, etc.

There are many bad DPS and just as many good, and often you have to make the hard decision, imo, to just let them stand in bad and die. Focus the tank.

Have really quick reflexes. Keybinds have to be redone. And then my side issue is that my rotation and setup means I’m a healer, not a DPSing healer. Sure. Throw in some dps stuff in case your team is rocking the run and you just want to add to it.

My issue is once I leave that dungeon, it’s back to a different spec. It’s not like playing blood or frost. I can DPS with both well. I don’t see how ppl DPS as resto. So, that means learning to be Balance then switch to Resto (druid) which is such a hassle.

Blood to UH or Frost is basically throwing in a threat generation or not. Healing is very stressful.

After you get kicked start a little journey of self reflection and self improvement: look up guides, addons, reflect on previous actions, and review your loadout.

I’d recommend healing 1st and studying the tanks as you play. That way you can learn the pathing, know how much/little to pull, etc. Plus afterwards you’ll be a tank that always keeps an eye on the healer’s mana and they’ll love you even more for it.

This is why I hold my tank alts until later in an expansion. I want to know the dungeons well before I go leading the charge.

Though I think I shine best on TBC Timewalking if only because I remember all the mechanics from ye Olden days (Arcatraz and Shadow Labyrinth are good examples).

That said, Prot Pally is giggle-fits levels of fun to tank IMO.
