Well, the evil (Rastakan) die regretting their actions while the heroes (Jaina) get away have self-righteously struck a blow for truth and justice. So I would say that if you like having Blizzard (“both sides deserve faction pride”) suddenly turn your character into a villain, then it is fine. Otherwise…
Of course Jaina has attempted mass murder and purged Dalaran, all of which vanish into thin air so her only redemption needed is for stopping her father from another try at genocide. So there is a villain bat (for the Horde) and a hero bat (for the Alliance).
I wonder if they had started the expansion off with Sylvanas redeeming herself to the Forsaken by, perhaps, accepting what the Desolate Council wanted her to, and then nobly fighting a Jaina who finally succeeded in destroying a city full of civilians. How the Alliance would react. It would have been a new record I think.
well thats because the alliance killed… wait. uh… well there was… no wait that was thrall. But vol-… no… that was a rando-demon. Well what about… no, garrosh did that with a poisoned axe.
I don’t want to kill her but it is easy to understand that it feels bad to lose against the final boss when the other faction killed a powerful character.
I don’t think most Horde players want to kill her. But this is like the 5th time Blizz has forced Horde players to tangle with her with no hope of winning (2nd in BFA), and it’s annoying. Also, how many final raid bosses have laughed in the Players’ face and walked off scot free before? 0?
Yeah I am a NE player, I know that. I just try to understand their perspective. It is not even about the story, for someone who knows nothing it feels unsatisfying maybe even to Alliance players who aren’t into lore.
Night Elf and Worgen players will be satisfied if Sylvanas is the final boss of a raid teir for them, and she laughs in their face and flies off once she gets bored…as long as she pulls some cool moves and leaves a loot chest right?
It’s because Blizzard seems to botch any chance of making the alliance seem like they want to be a threat to the horde, despite pushing faction war stuff multiple times in expansions. Jaina and Genn were the closest things horde players had to characters that could appear as villains to them, even with the baggage they’re carrying around because of the horde.
It’s especially frustrating because in WoW, Jaina started out as a character that looked like she could bridge the gap between alliance and horde, so in a roundabout way she’s the closest thing the horde had to a neutral character (despite the fact we never “owned” her in the first place). Then she gets dumped on hard, ALMOST does a horrible thing three times (although the first two weren’t for lack of trying), walks back on it because ultimately it’s the horde’s fault she was driven to that, then has it happen again in Dalaran. When she actually does do something, it either turns out to be a result of a bug (the citizens she occasionally killed) or hand-waved away (the soldiers guarding Aethas that she one-shot), and again it’s because someone on the horde drove her to it.
It’s exhausting hearing about a character like this so much, especially once you really used to like and had pushed away because of Blizzard’s faction war stuff. Sometimes I do wish Jaina would just die off; not because I want to be responsible for her death, but more along the lines of euthanizing a tiring set piece that’s trotted out to make me feel bad for rolling this character a decade ago.
