Should Goblin/Gnomish Engi be Disabled at lvl 40?

I believe that engineering needs to be addressed for the level 40 bracket. Perhaps disabling Gnomish and Goblin engineering entirely. But the more I think about it, maybe just Sappers need to be disabled.

Ignoring sappers for a minute, we have the following available for Goblin/Gnomish engineers:

  • Goblin Land mine (cool, fun because most people have probably never bothered to use them)
  • Goblin Construction Helmet (interesting niche item)
  • Goblin Mining Helmet (whatever. let’s you mine truesilver I think? Not sure if this matters)
  • Gnomish Goggles (sure, fair enough)
  • Gnomish Mind Control cap (gnome racial only. I’d say it’s a cool feature playing gnome, but they’re already OP in PvP so idk)
  • Gnomish cloaking device (very strong but doesn’t break the game)
  • Gnomish Shrink Ray (Cool item, not game breaking I wouldn’t say)
  • Gnomish net-o-matic projector (strong, still not game breaking)
  • Goblin Bomb Dispenser (Not game breaking)
  • Gnomish Battle Chicken (Gnome racial only. probably very OP)
  • Gnomish Death Ray ( Gnome racial only. OP in PvP, maybe even strong in PVE? not sure)
  • Goblin Dragon Gun (Gnome racial only. Probably really strong and fun to use but if gnomes are able to use all of this stuff they’re going to be insanely OP in PvP and PvE)

Ok. Now let’s discuss sappers. Even if everything else listed above is left as-is, something must be done about sappers. I believe the PvE meta will devolve to using fire protection pots and sappers on CD, and using them in conjunction to marginalize the content and make PVP extremely one-dimensional. Sappers are still overpowered when everyone is in Naxx gear, but at level 40 they’re just straight disgusting. Thoughts?

I mean it renders the Gnome racial pretty useless then.

I think maybe no making them racial specific on some but sappers? 100% need to be nerfed

Defiantly keep it in… didnt they say thats why they brought in the crafted epics. It was to give competition to engineering.

IMO engineering was one of those professions that really stood out. It gave a fun twist to professions which if we’re all being honest, the rest are super boring and more of a typical profession in a general video game. But engineering gave its own unique flavour. It 100% is part of “the classic feel” and without engineering it would not really feel like classic.

Although fun fact: if you are a hunter and want a sniper scope next phase you will need an engineer that is a gnome to make it. Good money making opportunity on the Neutral AH since all horde will need to get scopes from the alliance.

It’s finally our time to rule the world.

(Gnome main).

Why would you want to disable anything engi related at all?

Disable sappers for what? They picked engi for a reason just like people picked up crafting sets for a reason. I don’t get it

I went into SoD expecting things to be unbalanced. I don’t really care if engineers parse better than everyone else or if they do better in PvP, that’s just par for the course. In the end it doesn’t really matter and it’s just a little break from whatever else I was doing. I’m not going to roll engineering no matter how strong it is because I simply don’t care.

if your not going engi in the first place your a filthy casual, engineering is bis and always has been bis its just how you play the game it adds depth and raises the skill

The numbers on sapper are just way too skewed. They can crit for like 1150. And the fact that they do self fire damage… The meta will just revolve around fire protection potting and sappering, everything else will pale in comparison to that insane burst damage of group sappering. Sappers are too much damage for level 40.

I’m not suggesting removing engineering altogether lol… just reconsidering sappers in the level 40 level band. They’re way to strong for that level.

It warms the heart to see a world of magic and fantasy and the best solution to a problem is a ton of grenades.

Players will be critting higher than sappers at 40. You’re not factoring in our massive increase in player power from runes alone. We also do not know boss values at 40.

Well this is not clear yet. Blizzard is obviously buffing other professions as we have seen at level 25.

Maybe sappers and dynamite will be a form of cleave damage and crafted gear will provide personal dps boosts.

But I mean it’s no big deal if people use sappers. Is the meta rigut now not to use the purple crafted armor?

It’s the same idea

There is no problem at all with the meta revolving around engineering. That is how vanilla always has been, and how it should be.

But sappers are way too strong for level 40. Go look at what’s available and compare. And if the power creep from runes becomes as strong as you’re suggesting, then the other engineering consumables will be worthlessly weak. Solid dynamite is the highest dynamite we get at that level, and it does like 1/4 the damage of a sapper with 1/4 the AOE.

The purple armor is nothing compared to how meta sappers and fire protection pots will be next phase.

Who cares? The whole point of the sub 60 level caps are to see what we can break at those levels. Stop trying to reign everything in and let people have fun.

The only problem is that all of the cool and fun new runes and ability combinations will be heavily marginalized compared to sappers.

There’s a limitation on professions now so if the Devs believe putting a similar limitation there then they probably will but if they don’t then they won’t. Really as simple as that.

There’s going to be plenty of player bias on the matter to really have a reasonable conclusion here.

now im a gnome and excited bc we are the only ones that can use these things but how would we be able to get essence of undeath at level 40? because u need it for the gnomish deathray

The only thing broken will be that gnomes get death ray at 225 and p2 will be capped to expert

Vanilla didn’t have a meta. Classic did.

This is stuff that requires thinking ahead (about phase 2) something the developers definitely have not done and will retroactively address with nerfs so careless and you would think they were intoxicated
