Should General Discussion Posts Have a Limit?

I read throughout the day, looking for interesting topics to pop in and engage with. Sadly, most of it is either off topic, or just spam. Should the GMs implement a 5 per day rule in GD and leave Off Topic unlimited? Would people give heavier consideration to what they are posting if they only got 5 threads a day in this specific category of the Forums?

they should have a length limit.

no one needs to write War and Peace to get their point across.

Two threads a day at most

Be funny cuz it’d only impact like 6 people

I know just the 6 you mean.

I mean you seem to follow them around, so that makes sense

Most of the time I feel like its fine because I think many of us are just here as a distraction and way to feel engaged with WoW when we can’t actually play. Its not like the GD forum is serious business.

But man… the last few days there has been a certain pasta creating a new thread for every random thought they have and it makes me feel like you might have a point.

people arguing online about wow is so entertaining though

We find each other. Usually by accident. Although I do wish there was an option on the forum to be able to block threads from people you ignore and I might use the ignore function more often. Unfortunately, on mobile, which is where I spend most of my day while working I don’t get to see who created the thread so when I pop into post, I end up stumbling into the spam.

Length is fine.

They need to lock after 30 days of no activity. Because, damn, we have had some stupid rezzes here.

this would be a glorious change. other forums have it here in blizz forum land, I don’t know why GD doesn’t.

Isn’t there like a 9000 character limit?

There are days I make generous use of the “muted” option under thread tracking. It seems to help.

I mean, there’s only what 300 characters on most sites for texting something. I feel like 2000 characters is plenty to say what you’ve gotta say and you can always add a link to whatever it is you’re referencing. But even creating a new race can be very succinctly put in Without having to be 12 miles long and then people can discuss the nuances.

The occasional manifesto (that’s actually written by a human being passionate about a subject) nicely balances the threads that feel more like a tweet rather than a fully developed idea.

Yes, most long posts can be compressed and my attention is a finite resource with a lot of content here to skim through, but it’s nice to sometimes get to really meander through someone’s thoughts on a subject now and then.

I mean, if I can write a new race thread and how to implement it in 500 words or less I imagine everything else could be even more succinctly truncated

Our resident complex carb is pretty harmless, nothing else going on these days. Some other spammy posters who like to put down the playerbase on the regular are much more annoying.

As in people can only make 5 threads a day? That seems reasonable. Heck, a limit of 5 threads a week seems reasonable to me.

But if you mean we could only post in 5 threads a day? that would be too limiting.

You make a good point and I dislike when I have to disagree with good points, Mr/Ms./dude,… (Asimov to Vonnegut, Roddenberry, etc may wanted to post more than 5 one day? ) . I believe limits are almost always bad. Many oysters must be opened before we find a pearl.

i think you just want to get rid of our friend rigatoni
