Should Blizzard update their vanilla gear?

Seeing as how iconic many of them are, I’m surprised Blizzard hasn’t done a high res remake of at least tier 1.

Yep they should or at least make high res versions available another way.

Omg no lol

Update the originals lol

I like what they did in WoD with the remakes of Tier 4 so something like that I’m fine with.

Oh I know what you mean. I want them to create new stuff for new content.

I want them to update the old stuff not make us get them again lol

I’d like them to. I know it would be a vanity project or something frivolous but it would be nice.

I like a lot of older transmog, even vanilla/TBC stuff. Even though it looks so whacky sometimes. I used to buy the TCG art books and Google WoW TCG art all the time looking at how the artists drew some of the armor pieces. It put things in perspective and gave me clarity for how things are supposed to look in-game.

I loved the ToS tier sets, I hope they do that again!

Nah old is gold , let it stay that way

That would be nice.

Gross.

The literal opposite, I want them to NOT update the old models and instead add new rewards with HD graphics as a carrot for doing new content.

This game has way, way too little prestige mogs for current end-game content. The idea of art assets being diverted for the bizarre and a bit creepy “old raid” mogger farmers is the exact opposite of what I want them to do. Maybe those HD rewards will make their way to old mog farmers when they content they’re tied to becomes old but that’s about the extent I’d like to see them get.

If they were going to update any vanilla tier it should be tier 2. That stuff is iconic. A modern, up to date Judgement set would be the last set I ever need on my pally.

Dragon Expansion using HD versions of Tier 2 for their version of the Mage Tower would be lit.

Then we would get something like with ToS gear and lets be honest, people will complain about blizzard being lazy.

I might agree with you if they actually made really cool sets nowadays, but this most recent tier was complete letdown. I think the remake of tier 6 in legion was just about universally praised. I think they should do this with tier 5 as well, that was another extremely popular set pretty much across all classes.

NO!

Blizzard does not know the difference between update and change.

For example:

Burning Crusade’s Mordant’s Travel Tunic

Cataclysm’s 'updated ’ Mordant’s Travel Tunic

I would like updated versions of old gear but only if that didn’t mean the original looks are removed in the same process.

Yeah, they have a nasty habit of destroying the look of some old things:

I agree with Caelle: make new versions as an option, don’t change the old ones. Some of us like how the old ones look. Often times when things are outright changed, color change slightly, textures don’t work with an outfit, etc.

More options is always better.

I want one tier redone each expansion as part of a seasons/raid tiers new set.

Black temple was redone in legion and Warrior Tier one, Battlegear of Might has also been updated but is only available to Saurfang right now. I really like the old designs and hope to see more of them return, hopefully done tastefully and not over the top.

Only if they’re separate new pieces and NOT replacing the old. Looking at the slew of model changes they’ve done in the past that ended up being more like an entirely different thing (dark hounds being a top offender), I don’t trust them to stay faithful enough to the old designs to outright replace the old looks.
Hyenas lost their distinctive gradients, thunder lizards are muddy, rams aren’t nearly as fluffy and have goat faces now!

Modern WoW texture style is a lot more like “matte plastic,” highlights aren’t albedo anymore and colors are more uniform. That’s not going to translate well to lots of pieces that make heavy use of drawn-on highlights and color variation.

Do both.

Re-release an updated version of Molten Core, fully redone with modern mechanics, textures, and layout… and do the same with the gear and rewards.

Do the same with ZG and the Tiger mount. Why not? 1/2 this game is addiction and the other half is nostalgia. Then just keep working forward. Each patch could also include a reskinned and redesigned casual raid for the sole purpose of transmogs and fun. Nothing too difficult or resource intensive mind you. Just updates to already designed content.

That way you get your new models, and your old models stay just as exclusive.

And lets face it: when you can 1 shot everything in Molten Core having a thunderfury is more a statement of “I had good luck this one time” than “I am skilled enough to earn this legendary sword”.

Of course the graphics engine is really the thing that should change, but i understand that is a logistics nightmare.

I wonder if it’s a two fold problem. One, updated graphics on all the armor would take up more storage space on your PC. Two, the actual amount of manpower it would take to have someone go through the massive amount of gear and update it.

It’s probably just not cost effective at this point.
