First, I just want to take a moment to shout out the blizzard team that is behind raids and dungeons. You guys again and again have demonstrated that you are able to make fun and challenging raid encounters even with addons in the game. I believe this whole “addon war” is just a gigantic waste of time to both players and the dev team. Can we please roll back the api changes to what we had in TWW?

To answer your title: No.
Agreed, which is why people need to stop painting it as such and instead actually address what they said was their reasoning for it:
It isn’t a “War on addons” as much as it is “We want to make game we want to make for as many people as possible, with no actual, perceived, or social requirement to need to download addons to play the game.”
In short, the game rises and falls depending on what they make rather than what few restrictions used to exist that addon developers circumvented over and over again. Including when people knew explicitly that they weren’t allowed to access certain information that was meant to be protected from addons.
If you want to get a better idea of what a world without these restrictions look like, this is where it was approaching in terms of WoW:
I don’t think they should reverse it entirely.
But they should create hooks for certain aesthetic customisation to still be available. An important aspect that’s not properly customisable right now is combat text.
The current way personal combat text shows is non uniform, damage taken is hard to gauge on the fly as you can’t see blocked/parried/reflected states and you’re consistently just staring at your health bar to know when you’ve actually taken damage.
Being able to control scroll areas and have multiple hits merge while also hiding overheals like the basic function of MSBT used to do would honestly cover my last personal gripe with the game post addon yeet.
I have nothing against removing computation addons. That is something that the majority of raiders want gone. It is quite literally everything else that was removed with it.
