I’ve written this out of love for the early days of WoW lore. I’m not an expert on lore, nor do I claim to know every nook and cranny of lore. I get that Kalec is a big lore figure, but Tyrygosa is speculated/presumed to be the next in line to ruling the blue dragon flight as she is royalty. I don’t remember anyone asking her to rule after Malygos death. Not to mention she hasn’t been included in lore since cataclysm (she is still alive yes, and being one of the few blue dragons left in the world is a major deal in lore). Here’s how the quest should be…
You go to Kalec to figure out where the blue dragonflights relic is, he sends you to Tyrygosa for more answers as Kalec was not privy to certain information regarding this power, only the royalty of the blue dragon flight was. All Kalec knows is that The way to the relic could only be unlocked by those who are pureblooded royalty of the blue dragon flight. When you initially go to Tyrygosa she stubbornly and irrationally turns you away as she has sworn to never involve herself in the affairs of mortals. Instead of helping you she transforms from her high elf form to her blue dragon form and flies off. You search for her and track her down with the help of a dwarf dragon hunter named Harkyn Grymstone who happened to be in the area, along the way you come across Jorad Mace, a silver hand paladin who knew Tyrygosa and traveled with her for some time, he agrees to help you. Only to find her in distress, not being attacked but emotionally upset, Jorad Mace approaches her and tries to console her.
She knew you were sent by Kalecgos, and she explains that at one time they were to be mates. She was in love with him but he was not in love with her. (Their separation can be seen in the sunwell trilogy of blizzards manga collection). People forget that to those with immortality life may move by in the blink of an eye, but their pain will stay with them longer than a thousand life times. Tyrygosa upon seeing Jorad Mace, turns into her high elf form and her entire attitude changes, she is suddenly excited and happy, giving him a big hug. After they embrace she apologizes to the player when suddenly N’zoth’s forces leap through void portals and kidnap Tyrygosa before she can transform back into her blue dragon form.
Harkyn and Jorad both leap into the void portal after they wipe the floor with the foot soldiers of N’zoth. Before you can jump in, N’zoth’s voice bellows throughout the land, and a massive portal opens bringing forth a Behemoth. While you fend off a mini boss of exceptional difficulty, Jorad and Harkyn fend off N’zoth’s forces on the other side in the void pocket world. While they struggle to get to Tyrygosa, she is meanwhile stuck inside a void prison with her life force being drained by one of N’zoth’s old god lieutenants. Upon defeating the behemoth, N’zoth’s voice bellows once more, taunting you with a nervously aggressive tone telling you your quest to save Azeroth is futile. When you enter the portal you can see the great shadow of N’zoth’s tentacles in the backdrop of the zone, his great eye glowing with intensity. With the help of Jorad and the dwarf you are able to defeat the lieutenant quickly and stop the dark ritual before Tyrygosa is killed. She thanks you and everyone else and belittles herself for how useless she has been.
N’zoth’s plan for Tyrygosa is obvious, he did not want the last pure blooded blue dragon to succeed. Everyone walks to the portal and upon exiting Kalecgos is waiting on the other side. It gets awkward from here but in the end Tyrygosa understands the threat no longer regards mortals alone and agrees to help you. Harkyn and Kalecgos exchange a small greeting as they were once enemies long ago. Jorad and Tyrygosa say their farewells… with Tyrygosa showing sorrow in her eye’s as she knows that this may be the last time they ever see each other again in life. Jorad Mace has grown old, his face is pale yet his body is strong. His time on Azeroth grows short. It is the fate of all those who are mortal. Upon them embracing one last time, Tyrygosa gives him a kiss. Kalecgos cracks a smile then turns his head in sadness, for he too knows what it’s like to love a mortal. There was a time when Tyrygosa would scoff at the idea of loving a mortal, but time changes all things. Tyrygosa turns her head to the player, transforms into her dragon form, and tells you to get on. You take off with great speed, Kalecgos, Harkyn, and Jorad can be seen in the distance raising their hand in farewell.
Tyrygosa tells you the relic is guarded by dark arcane magic devised by Malygos during the founding of the dragon aspects and their rise to celestial power. This magic is connected to the blue dragon-flights relic and hones its power against any who wish to use it. You then can see that you’re headed back to the nexus again. And before you enter Tyrygosa tells you she is too weak to fight after that last encounter. She explains she can open the way for you but that the rest of the way must be done alone. Upon entering the nexus you see a familiar figure… it’s an echo of Malygos himself. The magic must have taken on the form of the one who casted it. (This fight should be considered a boss fight of considerable difficulty, very similar to the challenge artifacts in Legion).
I will leave the rest of the tale up to you to decide - please leave a comment if you read through this entire short story summary. If you enjoyed it give it a like ;D I wanted to add this in for a lil spice - if you’re faction is horde, Tyrygosa will mention she despises Sylvanas, but that she remains indebted to her for saving her life.
I thought of a reward for completing this (this quest line would be the final dragon aspect quest for the heart of Azeroth essences) upon collecting all of the dragon aspect relics essences, the player will receive a secret essence ability to breath fire like a dragon, and if the player is the race of blood elf they will also get a special cosmetic that adorns them with dragon horns.
I must say, for a beginner this isn’t half bad, I like that I star in this :3
I agree, this is a nice custom lore quest, don’t get to see this many small time lore characters converge like this too often.
I do like the inclusion of old lore characters, some of which never even got included in the actual game. Was a nice touch. Though my idea for a reward would have been to get the ability to talk in the tongue of dragons
The love between Jorad and Tyri always gets me
Dude if only quests were like this all the time. So much nostalgia here, very heartbreaking they haven’t included one of the sexiest characters in WoW to the lore of the game since what?.. 2012? Man >.<
I like your name haha xD
I like yours too lol
Not gonna lie, I am diggin the idea of having dragon horns as a cosmetic, though I don’t know how it would work on characters with horns already lol.
I wanted to add onto your story. I noticed you put Harkyn in it I also noticed you didn’t specify where the story primarily takes place. Have the location of the first part be among the wasteland of northrend somewhere. Make a short quest chain that has you hunt down the new twilight dragon infestation that was uncovered on one of the island expeditions. We already know that the red dragon flight’s roost is under attack by them, so give Harkyn an actual reason for being here. Also give Jorad Mace a small quest chain too before you get him to follow you. He wouldn’t just be there for no reason as well. Maybe make his quest chain the culling of new scourge forces that have grown out of the reach of the new lich king and under the control of the cult of the damned. Yes they’re still active but they hide in the shadows and are few in numbers after Wotlk. That way you fix whatever problems they initially set out to do and they repay their debt by helping you. Just fixes a couple plot holes I guess, but all in all you did a good job on this
wish the story board writers would do stuff like this more often.
Thank you for the support, I agree with you on this, it would greatly improve the story. I’ll edit it in a bit and give you credit
