While they might turn up on the trading post in the future, just a heads up that if anyone is interested in these shop pets, they’re being retired September 17th;
Blizz is starting to cannibalize itself
I purchased the CE of BFA just to get Tottle
I bought a 6 month sub because I figured it was a bargain when they threw the mount in
With the Trading Post and other Promo items, FOMO is no longer a problem> i just wait a while and I can get what I wanted at a lower price - and maybe even free
Why should I ever buy a CE or charity pet again?
I think that’s going to be a question we all ask ourselves. The answer, seeing other people about the forums talk, is personal level of patience.
I’ll often grab store pets or mounts if they’re on sale, and rarely (except for charity pet) at full price. With items coming faster (or so it feels) and having expiration dates I’ll have to decide if I want to pay full price or not. If the pet/mount really catches my eye, or it’s around a holiday (birthdays count too! ) I might. So slowly, over the years, I catch up and get all of the things on the shop. If these items are going to migrate to being on a timer, I’ll simply end up spending less money on the shop.
Well, I’d imagine you’d buy a charity pet to support the charity.
Okay, pet collectors/battlers, we must forever be vigilant!
Remember: the urge to sing “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” is just a whim away!
A whim away! A whim away! A whim away! A whim away!
Which is another strong objection I have. Pet purchases should not be tied to charities, ever. What happens if someone wants the pet, but they don’t agree with the charity? Or worse, they oppose the charity?
Blizzard is either forcing them to do without, or supporting something they’re opposed to.
I brought that up in one of my videos. I feel like Sunny has been the first charity-exclusive pet we’ve had. All the others have been available for purchase after the charity period, right? If Sunny is the first one like that, I can 100% agree I don’t like that trend.
Life is just chock full of tough decisions!
There are some charities that are not worthy of the name
I have worked in printing for over 40 years and seen plenty of lousy charities come across my desk. There are some that give out less than half of what they take in to the actual cause. One can only conclude that the main charity is the person who is sponsoring it.
On top of that, I am very cynical of corporations that sponsor charities. Invariably, it is individuals that contribute money while the corporation takes credit for raising the money.
If I want to contribute to a charity, I’ll do it. If I want to buy a pet, I’ll do it. Just don’t conflate the two.
I agree with you completely that some soi-disant charities are actually terrible when it comes to distribution of funds. But I will point out that (and I don’t doubt for a second that some charities have their sponsors as their biggest beneficiaries – look at Patrisse Khan-Cullors), but I will point out that some charities also spend way too much on advertising.
I can’t point to anything, but I don’t think it’s exclusive to Sunny. It’s normal for charity pets to be tied to the particular charity they represent. I don’t recall ever being able to purchase a make-a-wish pet outside of make-a-wish getting something.
For me, if I don’t appreciate the charity, I don’t appreciate the pet that represents that charity in game. And make my choices accordingly. I love that the option to support charity is available through a video game.
I think it is:
-
Alterac Brew Pup - Make-a-Wish, still available.

-
Brightpaw - Make-a-Wish, still available
-

-
Daisy - Doctors Without Borders’ COVID-19 Crisis Fund, still available
-
Dottie - Make-A-Wish Foundation and WE Charity 2019, available until 17 September 2023
-
Mischief - Make-a-Wish, still available
-

-
Whomper - Code./org, still available
So, yeah, it looks like this is literally only happening with Sunny, and I’d really like to know why. Because, as I’ve argued before, these aren’t just COSMETIC they are part of an in-game SYSTEM. Unless you create an exact replica with a new skin, having these pets no longer available can be a real hassle if that pet proves to be incredibly useful. Like the Molten Corgi was, for example.
Perhaps because Sunny is still active? We have no idea what they’re going to do with it when it’s over. Taking it away doesn’t mean it will never be back either. When the charity was active, tho, we did not have an option to purchase the pet with or without charity.
Great research on that list!
We do:
Time is running out! Pets from Pet Pack for Ukraine are special editions available as a part of this initiative only and will not return to the Shop or game in the future . Don’t miss out on these loyal friends.
Oh jeeze. Apparently words are hard today. I’m just going to go have some coffee and stop talking now. Cheers.
Okay.
Do what you need to do.
I liked the opportunity to have a good excuse to buy a really cute pet with greenbacks that I ordinarily wouldn’t have spent on the game.
Well if i didnt buy a CE , my bookshelf would get lonely without the newest one
Back in 2003, I bought the CE of Star Wars: Galaxies. The only reason I did that was because it was the only copy I could find on release date (back in the olde days). It came with a couple of dumb in-game pieces, plus some pretty cool artwork and some figurines.
I loved that game. It went through a lot of changes. Somewhere along the line, the game got corrupted on my computer and I quit for a while. When I came back, most of my friends were gone. I managed to rebuild my business and made more money the second time around. Then, SOE got hacked and the game ended up being sunset.
At that point, I threw it all in the trash because there was no point in keeping it. I have a lot of nostalgia for the game, but those days are long gone and far away.
WOW Collectors Editions do have a little more value because they bring a little something extra. But as time goes on, that value has eroded. The more they bring things back via the cash shop and trading post, the less that is worth. And there isn’t even a box to collect dust on the shelf.
Frankly, some of the pets are downright ugly. Daisy is the ugliest pet I have ever seen. And once they started to make bundles with Retail and Classic pets, I am just out on that.
There are many things that are valuable because they are unique. I will always respect players that have the Baby Blizzard Bear because it represents longevity and commitment I can’t match. While I would love to have the pet, I really hope they never offer it because it would be the ultimate betrayal.
Things are valuable in this world because they are rare. By making them available to everyone one, it cheapens them. If their ultimate value is zero, Why spend money?
I have the pet, and I certainly wouldn’t see it as a betrayal.
When you have pets as part of an in-game system, it negates any arguments for not letting players have access to them. The only way to circumvent this is make the ‘special’ pets non-combat. I especially have no sympathy for the pets that were just, “I had money at the time”, as in CE, TCG, RaF pets.
