Shocking population numbers from retail (data inside)

I dislike BFA as much as anyone, but I have a hard time believing those numbers. As bad as BFA has become, I think there are probably still at least several hundred thousand players, if not not 1M+. Some people love logging on every day for their collectibles and dressup.

People shocked and in disbelief for that number? Really?
It looks quite accurate.

The addon itself says it relies on people actually uploading the information it collects, you are wrong.

The thing is, they have changed the meaning of “full”, “high”, “medium”, and “low” several times in recent past. I know because I have characters on a number of servers and could see on the realm selection screen when suddenly everything changed.

At this point, we really don’t know what those words mean. But a “full” server on retail never has queues.

So did you log onto all 55 realms? Went to every zone etc? How does the addon collect the data of people online if you can’t even see them?

So are you saying theres less than say… 50 humans on each realm?

Also did OP do this on only his realm and tried using that as an average, or all 55?

no it does like race level class so its a lot more narrowed.

That never has and still doesn’t work. It’s close enough for grenades and wild speculation by players but not accurate.

Honestly, I believe you. The LFG tool for rated bg’s is like 3-4 groups and they’re usually not full. It sounds about right considering private servers had maybe 1-2 groups absolute maximum doing premades and they were half as much as your data. Also, my main realm has maybe 5 people in org or SW, rest are from a bunch of other realms I’ve never heard of.

Also, none of the realms are actually FULL, as someone else stated.

A couple nights ago, I ran a population addon search while doing some things on a Horde alt on my normal retail realm. The result was shocking: only 32 people found. Hopped onto an Alliance alt, and ran the same pop search, and found only 44 people.

That’s 76 total (although low levels under 10 or 20 aren’t counted, iirc). Anyways, I’ve never seen numbers that low. I can recall only a few times the Horde pop being just under 100, and a few times with just under 200 Alliance (the server is Alliance dominated). So it used to be worst case, maybe 275 people total on when those runs were done.

But two nights ago to find only 76 total folks on? Really astounding to see a 75% drop from what was the lowest I’d seen before.

I know people really want to confirm their anti-retail bias but please have some respect for yourselves

You don’t need to make up fake numbers for people to know BFA sucks.

You can look at WCL activity alone to know how silly a number like 30k is.

OP didn’t let the addon run for hours…he only did it for 5 minutes and determined that was the result

addon works when you run it for hours, unless OP did this for a month or 2, his results are likely invalid

I play retail too and my realm (Moon Guard), theres a person there that posts that addon daily on lfg/trade chat, she always says 3000+ people at peak time
