During the Stormheim campaign, the quest to charge the transponder lets you walk over any of the lightning pools inside or around the cave in order to gain charge.
When on the world quest version of this objective, walking over the pools does nothing, making gaining the charge via the adolescent drakes as the only source far more tedious than it needs to be.
