Shimmering graphics?

Hey there everyone, I’ve been having issues with my visuals while playing Classic, and I can’t seem to find a straight answer related to this anywhere. The only thing I can describe it as is a shimmering or flickering of textures when I’m moving around. I’ve tried changing my settings, tried running compatibility mode for the game, checked my gpu drivers… I’m just not sure what’s up. Anyone have any ideas?

edit: I’m trying to share a video of the issue so you can better understand what’s happening, but I can’t seem to share links.

edit x2: Here’s a pastebin code of the video, just trying to get past this no linking: 9He0FRcV

is it something like this? https ://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3d6ktUdzs1U (note) i modified the link so remove the space between https and : . hows the temps for the card. any ovrclocking.is the card getting enough power (whats the power supply in the computer? side note i don’t know why the blues on the forums can post links but we can’t makes it hard to post info links that they need to help with problems that some ppl have

Stillwater,

The only thing I see in that video is the grass in the pond being drawn against the water in a strange way - probably due to your graphics settings. Are you seeing something other than that on your monitor and in that video?

If so, can you tell me what is being drawn oddly on that video on your end? Let’s also get a text copy of your DxDiag using these instructions. Once you have that made, open the file. Copy the code below, then copy/paste everything from that DXDiag file between the rows of tilde (~) marks where it says “DXDiag goes here.”

Pardon the late response.

First off: here’s the DXDiag you requested…It’s really a lot of text, so I paste binned this as well for convenience: h ttps://pastebin.com/Lh82tr41

What I’m noticing and wondering about isn’t so bad as the video Eel posted, but still bothering me and perhaps an underlying symptom of something else. As far as I can tell whenever my character moves around in game other textures (maybe only others that also move, other characters for example) start to shimmer and even stutter subtly. My graphic settings were lowered at the time of making that first video above because I’m also having FPS issues sometimes, but since restoring them to recommended settings I still get the same effects even as my FPS shows 100 in game.

I’m no expert at diagnosing issues with my computer, so I apologize if this is difficult to follow. My video card temperature is within norms when I play, and it’s not overclocked to answer Eel’s questions. My power supply is a laptop adapter with 100-240v Input and 19.5v output if that helps/matters.

Whenever I’m around a bunch of people, like in Stormwind, I notice my FPS spiking quite a bit and I believe that makes things worse. I’m not sure if that’s a separate issue or not, but even out in a quiet spot in the wilderness when my FPS counter shows 100 I still get these shimmers and micro stutters.

Thanks for taking the time to consider all of this…I just wish I knew if this is something I can fix or not, or if my laptop is just dying/incompatible and I need new hardware. Cheers, everyone.

your laptop has Card name: Intel® HD Graphics 530 and Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M is the intel card selected or the nividia card or auto? if it’s the GTX 970M try going from DirectX 12 to DirectX 11 legacy . don’t know if this info well help but it’s worth a try

Stillwater,

To clarify, I need to know exactly what in the video you posted was “Shimmering” for you. The only thing I saw was the grass in the lake, so I wanted to be sure we were talking about the same thing. Was it just the grass shimmering for you, or were other things also shimmering?

Sorry, the grass was most evident in the video so that’s what I was pointing out, but different types of textures/graphics will do it. I do believe it’s mostly environmental detail. Grass, leaves in trees…the ground itself at certain distances will also do it. But also things like stairs, buildings etc.

Thanks for the tip, Eel. I can certainly try that once I’m able to back at home.
