Why it not work like shimmer? Better spec if shift work like shimmer.

I’m actually a big proponent of shift acting like a backwards shimmer. Easier to use from an accessibility standpoint (a single button press), and it would function so well with Void Scarred for seamless in & out movement, and allow for some really brilliant jukes involving void ray and collapsing star on Annihilator.
Being able to teleport to a higher elevation is okay, but in practice, really all it has is the cool factor, and then you’re hit with a ‘face your target’ error.
Mesmer has this in the form of phase retreat in GW2 and it’s brilliant.
Because even though it looks like Blink/Shimmer it isn’t, it’s actually Fel rush but with a reticle and a different animation.
With Blink/Shimmer you can avoid zone damage between point A and point B and you can even move under control effects like stuns or roots.
Shift is literally Fel rush with a different animation and greater control over the movement point, allowing some vertical movement and not just horizontal, but that’s about it. If you try to move through a zone damage that’s in the middle of point A and point B, you’re going to take damage, just like with Fel rush.
I agree that it should function like Shimmer; in addition to movement, it would give it both defensive and offensive value. And God knows we need some defensive value.
100% it should would fix a lot of the current issues with getting off collasping star.
Also remove the CD on collasping star if it fails to go off
Heard some people say the skill part of Devour is being able to pick the perfect times to get CS off and not have to clip your void rays.
Like man, I just got the proper amount of souls it’s either I cast CS now or I fall out of Meta. So I cast CS and boss does instant AOE knockback. the lockout from failed cast needs to change. There is nothing skillful about it.
Is there any other spec in the game that can self-kick themselves?
Every spec that has a channelled spell that also has a cooldown.
If they removed the lockout from CS failing they’d also have to remove the drain slow / pause while casting it, and I doubt anyone wants that.
This is such a small issue that Blizzard came themselves with it’s basically not even worth doing.
Even if you decide to start casting and interrupting CStar all the time and decide not to drop Meta, you gain exactly 0 DPS by doing this. In fact you are still losing damage.
You are not casting anything the drain ramps in power. It’s a completely useless move that might only be useful in a desperate degen situation like holding a CStar for adds spawns, but I repeat, it’s so niche and so minimal that it isn’t worth harming the whole spec for it.
