Shield block/shield slam

I’ve no qualms with making the old school weapon swap macros, but mythics lock your equipment in when the key starts? are we just going to have those two abilities blocked off from us?

I’m sure i read somewhere that they are removing this restriction come Shadowland’s i just cant remember where.

is that the weapon requirement restrictions or the gear swapping restrictions?

Once again. Those are half flavor, half for doing trivial open world stuff like loltanking a WQ elite. You’re not expected to use them in M+ or the like.

just for weapons

Currently, at least for Fury, there’s no value in wasting a GCD or Two in using either ability. Flavor more than anything as they provide no significant defense or survivability that you can’t suppress with other abilities. And they don’t generate rage so it’s a dps loss. Don’t worry about it.

They’re not supposed to be used in a dps rotation, they are supposed to be used in situations where you need to be more tanky. Mainly in pvp I’m sure, or in a situation where an off tank is needed. People wanted abilities that could be used in certain situations and being able to be extra defensive is warrior class fantasy.

Being able to clutch tank in PvE is huge, was huge, and will always be huge… It’s cool for emergency situations where the tank dies, or any time you want to take a single hit for some reason.

It might not be your ideal flavor, but I’m really pleased to see it back. Also very glad they’re letting weapon swap happen in m+ to make it viable in all content.

Shield block will not let you act as an emergency tank in anything resembling challenging content.

A combination of wearing a shield, popping that and ignore pain? Not long enough to finish a fight, and/or cover until a brez? I don’t agree, but only time will tell I suppose.

If we look at past iterations, it was certainly an effective option right up until it was removed. Sadly don’t have access to test on ptr for a couple days yet.

Are you kidding me? So its a bait n switch? Oh we brought back some ability but you can only use it in meaningless content. Do you hear yourself? How is anyone good with such an absurd design philosophy. I could care less about anima, conduits, covenants etc.

Whose alt are you? You are on like every post from an 11 alt but what you are saying is either flat absurd or you are just being a contrarian. Every post is like this on your knees groveling for their design team as if they are never in the wrong. They are in the wrong. If I cannot switch to a shield and back in mythic plus or arena, then the game is a joke.

First thread i click on, and lo and behold… someone else is calling Derez out for being a douche lol.

That being said, i have to say that SL seems to be adding a ton of pointless abilities. They called it unpruning, but honestly its just adding stuff without real application in stuff.

I do think shield block has some nice application in PvP perhaps? Solo content and WQs maybe?

What’s absurd about that.

Oh so we’re not even pretending to be polite.

This isn’t a popularity contest.

I’m literally actively criticizing the addition of pointless flavour abilities. What are you talking about.

It feels pretty weak, to be honest. Without the buffs to block (not to mention your base armor) provided by actually being in Prot spec, the damage reduction against any boss that just killed your tank is negligible. I don’t think it’s going to let a Fury warrior pseudo-tank any better compared to the passive healing from your normal rotation.
And of course as far as emergency tanking is concerned, for Arms it will always be better to pop Die by the Sword and Taunt. A blocked attack deals reduced damage, a parried attack deals no damage at all.

I’ll go on the PTR in the morning and get a meme dungeon run together to see just how long I can not-die, though.

In all seriousness, let me know how it goes. Will do some tank dummy testing for numbers…and I’m going to be trying some tests with a combination of shield block/ignore pain and intervene to see what kind of applications we might see.

Another instance that might be neat is intervening someone that is being fixated while mitigating the damage you take for them. (Will specifically test some in underrot)

I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by how tanky I turned out to be.
Small problem, however: your damage is neutered. Hardcore. Comically. In the dungeon group, it was impossible to hold threat outside of the Taunt window. I had to go find a world quest elite to smack on.

Yeah, I played around with it some last night myself. You definitely feel pretty tanky compared to just keeping two 2h on (hell, the extra armor alone is sort of huge, let alone the block value), and it seems like you can remedy the threat issue somewhat by trying to use it proactively when possible. (Think taunting something off tank while he’s alive, and having him chill a little while being topped)

It’s definitely very very niche, but I could see some hero moments coming from the current state on ptr.

It’s less “your damage is neutered” and more “all tanks have an invisible threat multiplier that lets them keep ahead of the DPS”. The fact that you don’t have that is why you can’t loltank as Fury or Arms, outside of throwing out Challenging Shout or Taunt for a few seconds. It’s simply not the intended design.

Which is why I mentioned taunting off the tank as they’re still alive if possible, putting you ahead of them on threat rather than just where dps players are sitting
