Shield block question

Does casting shield block always extend your current shield block by 6 seconds? Or does it work under the pandemic mechanic?

Shield block is an active mitigation mechanic so it’ll add 6 seconds up to 3 stacks total I believe. In other words, if you could get the CD of shield block down enough and could repeatedly hit it you’d only ever get it to stack up to 18 duration. This is similar to shield of the righteous for paladins that extends it’s duration, again up to a max of 3 times it’s duration.

Got ya, so it should never be used when you have > 12 seconds of shield block already.

Correct, don’t use it above 12 seconds.

Shield block caps at 30 seconds. You’re never hitting this cap unless you both talent bolster and use reprisal.

You never want to not hit SB while actively tanking aside from very niche situatons (caster boss) but even then you loose out on dps as SB = bigger SS
