Shattrath City Raid

When ever I’m Draenor and I fly by Shattrath I wonder what that raid could have been like. I really don’t think Blizz should have skipped that one. If they had dropped the garrison docks and some of the features they added to do that raid I think WoD would be held in better esteem now.

Considering that that tier contained the entire middle of the storyline that made everything that would happen later make sense? Yeah, they made a mistake cutting it out.

I mean, rip Yrel’s character arc making any sense at all.

WoD, I left early and for a long time. Nothing made sense in that expansion. It’s also the one I hate leveling through. I really do need to get back in there for pathfinder, but I dislike it so much.

I never make it far enough for anything to make sense.

I know it would be a huge hassle but I would love if they put it out for an anniversary event. Though I dont watch them they could even have another World’s First race around it.

I cant imagine they dont already have much of the assets and boss fights laid out sitting on some USB in a dark corner where they keep the sword of a thousand truths and their ability to communicate.

Also, RiP Shattrah themed mogs.

Every time I’m in Nagrand I wonder about the ogre zone that could have been. I’m holding on to a sliver of hope that they’re saving it for an ogre or half-ogre playable race/allied race one day.

Maybe the assets will be re-used when and if they dig Yrel back up for World of Warcraft: Revenge of the Light.

It was prob gonna be like what you see outside. Maybe a garden inside?

From what I remember from blizzcon Shatt was going to be the main city but at first the Iron horde was going to have control of it and we had to kick them out at some point. The raid could have been that.

They used some of the bosses and mogs in HFC.

It is my personal theory the whole Sargerei wing with Socrethar, Tyrant Velhari and possibly also Archimonde and the fel-corrupted Draenei mogs that those bosses drop were repurposed from the Shattrath raid.

Remember when they said Grom Hellscream was going to be the end boss of WoD and then all of a sudden they pulled one of the most powerful Legion generals out of their twisting nethers and made that whole nonsensical storyline about us forgiving Grom for reasons?

Its sad every time I run that because he even talks about we stopped him in Shattrah and I want to know more.

Yeah i get the feeling they intended for that raid/patch to be about Grom coming around to seeing he was wrong or some such. But since we didnt it was very contrived and sudden switch of personality.

Considering they never even finished Karabor and Bladespire, I can easily imagine the raid got cut because they failed to do any work on it at all.

I’m still very bitter about all the story potential they wasted in WoD, though.

That happens in the War Campaign. It’s super lame but you end up helping Lady Liadrin and Exarch Maladaar fight him outside the front door of the dome. It’s the end of a very bland set of quests where you basically fill a bar and get 100 Sargerei insignias. Probably the least interesting of all the campaign stops.

The fills the void, thank you. Too bad it filled it with bull droppings.

It’s really tough to say what they would have done had the powers that be told them to completely cut all development on WoD related patches and go straight to Legion.

Thinking about it, even Gorefiend was probably part of what they had developed for Shattrath. He fell in Auchindoun and it would have made more sense to fight him there and not in HFC.

The real question is whether HFC was supposed to be the second tier raid (where it would have been basically “Green BRF”) with a bunch more angry orcs, or if we would have been sidetracked with a Legion invasion of Shattrath and then went back to HFC to challenge Grom at the end.

Even the development of Tanaan was likely affected. I doubt it would have been so Legion-trashed if it was middle tier content and not final tier content.

If I ever get the chance to pick Alex Afrasiabi’s brain I’m going to ask about exactly what was originally planned for that.

And don’t even get me started on Farahlon. It’s still on all the maps of Draenor and should be visible off the coast of Gorgrond. There is even a shipyard mission to go there. That and Shattrath were the two biggest things I was interested in seeing after the Blizzcon reveal (Karabor as a faction city was #3) and I’m pretty disappointed about how all three turned out.
