I thought the same thing this past weekend. Where is everyone. I am no longer doing the dailies outside the minor vision in the zones and the assaults. Even the assaults felt empty.
Yup, it’s a ghost town at times. Last night the wife wanted to do the dailies and I tagged along and we saw a total of maybe 5 other people doing all the dailies, the whole time.
This is why they should have been world quests instead, so they’d at least scale with weekly events.
Five people are all of a sudden a ghost town. I love to only see 5 people doing those dailies because that means I don’t have to wait around for things to respawn.
They turned off CRZ to help with the lag and it appears people just love to spend hours there wasting their time. Go figure, not to my liking.
Dailies are the same as world quests. The only difference is having a quest giver instead of it being auto give/complete.
With consistently decreasing sanity, I imagine it is hard to teach while simultaneously avoiding insanity.
Well, yes, I’d call 5 people a ghost town when you spend a bit of time there and only see a total of 5 people the whole time, never all at once.
And if CRZ was turned off, then I’d probably go back to doing them again, because nothing was fun about going back to the ways of old and fighting people for clickables.
I still haven’t bothered w/ any of it. In fact the only thing that drew my attention was the quest-line to get an alpaca mount, which I will do at some point.
Getting the elusive one up in Voldune really sated my thirst for a fluffy, bouncy cute mount for the moment.
Great post. Its totally accurate. I have experienced the same thing. People are already tired of this daily grind. The only people still doing them are alt lovers like you and me. My guildies were talking about this yesterday. I told all of them might as well level alts. There is nothing else to do for the rest of the year. We have plenty of time to catch them up. Many told me they wont bother. Getting essences takes way too long. Specifically the mechagon and nazjatar ones. Nazjatar is like 16 consecutive days on a new alt. Most people log into wow like 3 times a week. It takes those people almost 2 months to get that essence.
Basically what this guy said. Good ideas executed horribly. Mechagon was another one where participation quickly died down after people got the shiny after 2 weeks.
Uldum and Vale participation falling off was pretty obvious once I saw how they had locked Visions behind arbitrary currencies that HEAVILY punish players for failing.
Instead of creating a fun system you would want to do across multiple areas of the game they created content with artificial scarcity. Visions could have been an entirely new aspect of the game but nope.
Easiest way to fix the problem is for Blizzard to understand what drives their players. Where are the transmog sets? Where are the mounts? Minions?!?!
This get X then go raid mentality had been screwing them for years and putting them into a box. This content has to last 9+ months or else they need to rush Shadowlands.
Either way they are screwed.
Most people will be doing the dailies for rep and visions. Past revered there isn’t much reason to finish every quest every day except for the visions. With visions, everyone will have their own threshold for how much time they’re willing to spend getting the tickets.
So the two main reasons (sorry mount and pet collectors, most people aren’t like that) for people to go in are both starting to be less and less compelling.
Different strokes for different folks. I personally don’t mind grinding dailies and carefully running visions. I began my MMORPG career with RuneScape, so grinding is hardwired into my brain.
If the people you aren’t seeing are anything like me, it’s just not worth it to go super hard on rep for the 8th and 9th time this expansion. It’s the last patch we’re going to get for a long while so I’m not going to burn myself out on these annoying dailies.
Also, small gripe but why aren’t the bonus objectives viewable on the map? What purpose does obfuscating the locations of them serve other than to waste time?
Dailies wouldn’t be so bad in a new zone. But dailies in MoP and Cata content?
We are already desensitized to that stuff. No amount of purple and tentacles will re-sensitize us to those places.
True, new areas would’ve been nice to see.
Come to classic, it almost had more people on wcl than retail last week. It’s so much more fun than retail right now at least
While I think the vision system and corruption system is unique and a stab at being innovative, the dailies were the least fun portion of it so it makes sense people finished what they had to and moved on to something else.
The competition and the respawn timers were out of whack. I spent far too long waiting for things to pop up to grab. Sometimes the dailies took well over an hour to finish and that just seems insane to me given the supposed philosophy of dailies in the first place.
Lastly it’s what they chose as a daily. Finding 3 rare chests and 3 rare mobs in one daily stretch is a bit cruel. It was nice to see people posting locations, but I often saw complaints in chat about flying around for 30 minutes for their last rare chest.
Not the best stable of dailies I’ve ever done. They also were the least rewarding ones.
I play FFXIV, but I didn’t know there was even a content patch. I’m not max level there, and my free company is currently the target of reddit meme level outrage that thinks the FC is a cult, so it doesn’t matter a lot to me. Even fiddling around doing random things in WoW is better than logging in to FF to see 50+ random people screaming in the yard of your guild house and glitching through walls.
I’ve almost stopped playing, started 8.3 doing dailies on 2-3 toons, doing all the mount rares, all the bonus objectives I could find for rep etc. After a few days I cut that down to dailies on 1 toon, minor visions and assaults on the others and killing mount rares on all, then I cut out vale dailies because I realized they don’t actually give anything useful other than more currency.
Now I log in and do minor vision on main toon then pretty much log out, getting my cloak to 15 seems pointless, there’s no content waiting for me if I do other than visions with more masks which doesn’t seem to give any sort of unique reward worth bothering with, the only thing I can really see is the backpack after you’ve unlocked all of your trait tree.
Currently downloading ESO again, watching for FFXIV to go on sale and playing Terraria calamity mod in the meantime, I think i’m done with WoW until Shadowlands.
Yes to waste time but fortunately someone made a coalescing vision source weakaura (like a todo list). Got it 2-3 days ago and it has helped the wasted time in the zone and unnecessary tabouts to wowhead.
However I still never managed to build up the motivation to complete the major invasion or the first lesser invasion this past week. Did multiple days of nazjatar (and on alts) doing AP/rep farming there. World quests seemed into interest me more than dailies could ever do.
World quests are more efficient since you don’t have to talk to an npc twice, and you are already in the area where the content is at. No need to go out to a location away from where you are starting at.
Actually together the dailies give you almost as much as the minor vision with wm on.
