Shared materials across regions patch - noooo

For some of us, wow is about logging in, gathering ore/materials and selling them on the auction house.

The latest patch blew up that economy for materials - with 16k at a dirt cheap rate for materials, the 100 ore I go and mine means nothing now.

That’s a bold change, and I think some crafters will love it. Those who gather, maybe not so much. For me, gathering and selling was 95% of my gaming in WOW. Bummer!

All “casual” gold making got nerfed in 9.2.7, not just gathering.

Vendor crafting materials got increased in price so that shuffling mats into gold at the vendor stopped being profitable.

Gold missions at the covenant tables are spawning at a much lower rate.

Raid or die.

Its going to become a big problem. Mats will not stabilize they will continue to drop because they have no floor price the only investment is time so people will cut the price until its a couple of gold. We are already seeing it with some SL items.

This will also drop crafting’s profitability as people leave gathering to try making gold with crafting and with the cheep mats they will level up cheaply a quickly then flood the market.

What Blizz needed to do was only merge low pop realms merging every realm was a mistake. I dont begrudge people having reasonably priced mats but 2-3 gold for current content stuff is insane. Never mind the old mats which are going for silver.

Herbs, ore, leather, inks, etc can be region-wide. But leave the crafted goods out of it. Whats the point of the specializing in DF, being known on your server for making special items, if you can get them from anyone in NA?

merge the entire AH, not just comodity items or dont merge any at all!.

Part of this is the typical end-of-expansion doldrums for economic activity. This is the worst time to try to make money for the vast majority of players.

But part of this is also revealing the fundamental cracks in the economic system of wow - inputs are virtually infinite, and outputs are few.

Since when did raiding generate a net positive in gold? If anything, all the repairs make it a massive gold sink. Raiders also buy consumables, which is pretty much the only reason why herbs sell. All the “casual” gold making methods you described are the reason we have such insane inflation.

Jewelcrafting gems were always worthless but after
The patch they’re now like 8g for a blue gem

I didn’t say it did. But it is the only remaining avenue of any sense of progress or achievement. Can’t improve your gear in the open world. Can’t make any real gold any more. Nothing left but Ion’s treadmill.

Only the clueless cratfers think they will love it.
.
Here is the reality, all mats are dirt cheap with the regionwide AH. The buyer will procure these dirt cheap mats that they need for their craft and place a buy order for what they want, offering a commission of next to nothing. Some crafter will click a button for the buy order because “why not” its free money or one of your many guildmates will for free.
.
Any rare materials will be soulbound to the buyer, so the crafter has zero control over forcing a price. If the crafter thinks the commission is too low, some other crafter guarenteed will do it (1) because thats how you level DF crafting or (2) “why not, its free money”.
.
Crafting & gathering professions are done for as far as making any significant income.

and bots dont care about time…

I think the crater should be able to bid on the commission honestly. Is stupid to give that much power to the buyer

I agree that work orders will be a race to the bottom. I also think it’s intentional. Crafters forcing people to buy tokens to have their legendaries in Shadowlands basically are the reason why power is being taken away from the crafter and transferred to the buyer.

I really hope they gateway some of the armor crafting to materials to be earned in mythic zero dungeons. I made a killing selling 32 slot bags in BFA because of hydrocores being only obtainable via M0 or M+ dungeons.
As a crafter who also ran keys this was a lucrative combo.

Items that are local are…
Mounts
Pets
Armor
bags
And a few other items.

Crafters that focus on these will not be competing with the entire region but just their server.

If your crafting consumables GL.

I really hope they restrict all selling on the AH to only be people whose forum alt’s names start with M.
