Sharding

I realize that it's still a demo. But as for putting it out there: I will not play Classic if there's sharding. If the server crashes let it crash. I'd take that any day rather than have the game feel community-less.
Seems to me that sharding somehow allows Activision to save money on servers or bandwidth or something. There is no way this was implemented with gameplay in mind.
Plz no sharding, it will ruin immersion and ruin community

I still somehow can't believe that server technology hasn't advanced any in 14 years. Or maybe its the engine in which the game has been built. I don't know the first thing about game development, or coding, or anything, but it seems surreal that, again, 14 years later, having more than 100 people in one zone or area is still a problem.
Ion basically just said again expect sharding when Classic launches.
So sharding for launch to handle server load and then phased out as server population stabilizes according to Ion.

it will last a few weeks tops. If you are intrested in community there will be plenty of time to develop it. classic isn't going to end in 3 months, supposedly.

Other than that, its more work for blizzard and there are people who are actually more intrested in leveling and immersion. community will be built over time. if you make a few friends in the first week? Grats, but you still have months to make more.

And what if the Horde raids IF and a huge number of players convene there? Will sharding kick in? They need to be clear on these things, because it is potentially huge and gamebreaking.
