Please tell me this will be be used in Classic? I just want plain servers please. I've never even thought about this before today but I quickly realized how bad it would be if implemented. Has there been any confirmation from devs that this will not be used whatsoever in Classic?
They said no but the proof is in the pudding. So we wait until release10/29/2018 10:15 AMPosted by PrigilPlease tell me this will be be used in Classic? I just want plain servers please. if they add it, classic will fail
Meh, you can’t know that.10/29/2018 10:21 AMPosted by Cyberwinsif they add it, classic will fail
How sharding is set up makes all the difference. If Blizzard sharded within server limits you’d never know.
More like sharting.
J. Allen Brack said no sharding in this interview: https://www.pcgamer.com/this-is-how-blizzard-plans-to-finally-bring-back-vanilla-wow-servers/
Its definitely going to be interesting to see how they handle population, I feel like starting newbie zones will be heavily sharded and phased for quests.

I hope not. I had a lot of fun when the private server I play on launched a fresh realm. Sure, it's sometimes hard to get all the mobs you need but sometimes that brings out other methods of leveling. It was a lot of fun. Plus, there was no lack for groups to do certain quests. I'm looking at you Relics of Wakening quest.
actually yes you would... Server pops were small in vanilla so you saw the same people consistently as you were leveling and doing things. If you kept running into different people when you went out and didn't run into those familiar people from time to time it would be pretty obvious.10/29/2018 10:24 AMPosted by RistraMeh, you can’t know that.10/29/2018 10:21 AMPosted by Cyberwinsif they add it, classic will fail

If they add drastic non vanilla changes it will fail.
I don't think they'll shard, but it's not completely out of the realm of possibility. They definitely shouldn't as it is quite contradictory to the vanilla experience.
Either way I shouldn't have too many issues competing for mobs leveling up starting in Mulgore. Tauren are the least played race horde side and probably the least played race period. Gnomes might be close, but for leveling purposes it doesn't much matter since they share a starting area with dwarves.

Where exactly? He just says that the community doesn't want it. Since he knows that it would lead me to believe they won't do that. It's Blizzard though. You never know until you can log in.
“One of the tenets of Classic WoW is none of the cross-server realms and different [server] sharding options that we have available to us today. ” - J. Allen Brack.
It does not make sense to make Classic WoW’s philosophy “no sharding” and then add sharding. So he is saying no to sharding there. Could he be lying? I guess, but for what purpose?

They can intend to not want sharding, but then learn as they develop it that it might be a good idea.
Sharding keeps servers from cratering. It also keeps realms from dying by allowing them to create fewer realms in the first place.
Use sharding to absorb the initial crush, the wave of lookie-loos, and drive by "level 12" crowd. After that, the realms stabilize, the populations stabilize, and the improved capacity of the modern infrastructure on modern hardware handles the rest.
Maybe they won't shard. Maybe they'll let the players experience WoW like it was in the beginning -- Unstable, down time, realm queues. A REAL Vanilla experience. (if only we could relive the patch experience! or, you know, not...)
But they have the tech to do it. In fact they can turn it on for the first month or so, and then turn it off once the wave has passed.
But, frankly, the worst thing they can do is over provision. Provide too many realms. I think the community needs to suffer through the initial crush, however it's done (queues and instability or sharding) rather the watch servers wither and die later on.

He isn't saying no. He is saying its a tenet. That doesn't mean they can't change their minds. I believe there will be no sharding and no cross server. I desperately hope for none of that anyways. I just take things like that with a grain of salt. Until he straight up says "We will not shard. We will not cross realm" then I will wait to see what happens. Even if he said those things I still wouldn't believe it until I saw it. I've been playing wow too long to take what they say as truth until I log in and see it.
