Yes please. For Launch only sharding with 200-500 pop shards, what is the worst case?
Kiyrin already summed it up perfectly.
The prophesies of doom are old and moldy. Much like the cheese.
¿Dónde estå el baño?
Copy this from the other post -of many- concerning this topic.
Blizzards modern tech/solutions will be used to assist with and even help justify the businessâ needs concerning the Classic project. Sharding, right click report, modern bot/exploit detection etcâŠ
It is what it is. Starter Zone sharding wonât impact the Classic experience, overall, outside of appropriately handling launch based server bloat.
They said right off the bat they arenât looking to replicate the original launch experience. Literally right off the bat.
The prophesies of doom crowd might feel better by practicing more acceptance and letting go of their exaggerated -the sky is falling- style of complaints.
Can we call this the Wall of Yes?
Right? Classic is going to be glorious even with all the minor/modern solutions in place.
Especially when itâll still have lots of people competing for resources in Durotar, and the sharding will be all but forgotten by L30.

Players boycott the game from the beginning or after a few weeks as sharding isnt gone after whatever was promised.
They all also coherent with each other having certain sub layers of problems attached to them, as the impact on community, immersion and gameplay + more.
Or in short, since day one, sharding has the potential to kill the game before it even started.
So your worst case is that you canât trust Blizzard?
No Sharding isnât going to stop that. And thatâs a religious argument, that canât be debated, so Iâm not even going to try. None of it is effects of what I proposed, unlike what Iâm talking about as the result of your own proposal.
Why play a game or support a company you cannot trust? Why do that to yourself?
Or in short, since day one, sharding has the potential to kill the game before it even started.
A plane has the potential to kill me.
Doesnât mean I stop flying or freak out about potential negatives.
I trust the pilot and what he/she said they were going to do.
NO!
Did you even read all the things iâve written to you about that? I said why and how it can happen that sharding will have the effects.
And it is not Blizzard not keeping their word out of an evil intend.
But because they canât because they tried to give you your que free day one carebear experience and are now potentially stuck in a situation where they cant remove sharding anymore.
Ah. Tossing out the carebear.
Just another private server refugee, looking for Blizz to make Classic as similar to their private server as possible⊠trying to mask their reasoning behind easily countered opinions and chicken little-esque prophecies of doom.
Weâre all super bummed your servers are going down. Youâll have to play on non-stolen property now.
lol
If that is your attitude, why do you think throwing a temper-tantrum on this forum will somehow change how they operate, given past precedent?
Blizzard 'gunna do what Blizzard 'gunna do.
Y, after all Iâve written its disrespectful to reduce all that to some kind of religious whatever, just in order to distract people from the fact that she/he is wrong.
I have seen enough. And therefor I will not participate in this conversation anymore.
And I donât have to. I said what had to be said, and unlike some other people in here, Blizzard can read.
Looks like sharding might do more than handle server bloatâŠmight filter out some negative impacts on the Classic community, before its even in-game!
To be clear, there will be queues with Sharding. There have to be because even a 12k server cap wonât handle the crowds, and there is still an upper limit on the total number of accounts active on a server.
Lets break it down.
Sharding is used initially.
Short Term Negative Effects:
- More people play the game at launch.
- More people like the game and keep playing.
- Blizzard sees that the population is getting past Starters, and adds more servers for new players consumate to the numbers getting through Starter zones.
- Classic Purists who are more concerned with getting what they want, than enjoying Classic, quit.
Long term negative effects:
- Classic Purists return after they find out everyone else is happy, and sharding was removed after a few weeks or even a month.
- Servers are bulging with people.
- Blizzard opens new servers and allows transfers off overcrowded servers.
If Blizzard is not capable of removing sharding from the servers, especially after specifically stating that was their intentions with it, then like I said before about server stability: They have no business running a Classic WoW server.
If people get mad about it then let them be mad. The intention was clearly communicated a long time ago.
Your worst case scenario is defeated simply by Blizzard doing what they said they were going to do.
Which if you donât trust them on that, then the problems go deeper than sharding.
My last comment.
Subjective at best. You have no clue how sharding at launch would fly with Classic WoW players.
What is that wishfull thinking? Thank god you donât make the decisions.
Im out.
Because Blizzard themself said that they want to use it because of player influx. But whatever, run down this game as youâve run down retail.
Feels just like when i quit playing the game so many years ago. Same people, with same short minded ideas and priorities.
No less than you, except that you claim you know. Which is why its a religious argument that canât be debated.
The system Iâm proposing isnât Legion Sharding. Its 200-500 person shards only in starters.
You keep arguing with a strawman that wants sharding up to and including every zone with almost no-one in it, because you donât trust Blizzard to stop, like some maniacal madman with a power trip. âShard it, shard it ALL!â
They have no intention of doing that, will not do that, and will quite happily add more servers if they see them become necessary. All of this is subjective, most especially your own grandiose claims of doom and gloom.
Next lie. I never claimed to know. I simply wanted you to look at the worst case.
Whatever, bye.
