They are used in the exact opposite ways. For example, CRZ is used when there is a zone that is under populated. So if you’re on a dead realm chances are you will experience CRZ 100% of the time. Sharding is to split up the population. So you could be just on your server and get sharded, or you could be in a CRZ and get sharded. They can work together, but they don’t always have to. If that makes sense.
The original link also said that the current content zones would be sharded. So this dozen people issues is pointless as they said they will shard current content. Current content is current.
I suppose the best choice for me in Classic would to be on a low-mid population server, then, since I don’t wanna risk necessary sharding.
All this said, I just wanna reiterate that I don’t like server merges, it’s just a lesser of the evils from my perspective. My server turned out ok after merging, and others may have not.
Merging servers to a population that needs to shard would be incredibly bad, but I think my main concern is CRZ.
Meh, at this point I’m just going to trust the devs.
You… you don’t shard when you’re grouped… now it just sounds like you may be lying or confusing this with phasing.
sigh
In general, however, our goal is to follow the general rule of thumb that RP realms do not shard, except in current-expansion zones, or when temporarily necessary to support gameplay. This should now be the case on all RP and RP-PvP realms worldwide. This is in addition to our existing rule that RP realms do not automatically fill areas using our Cross-Realm Zones system (although you can still enter an RP realm using CRZ if you’re grouped with a player on an RP realm).
