Why is sharding a thing? This game (wpvp in particular) functioned 100x better back when there were pvp servers and pve servers etc… This entire change to the server types was horrible. Look where we are now, can’t find a middle ground to make alliance and horde both happy. Horde complain about 30% wm buff and overwhelming odds, now alliance are complaining that it scaled back down and they can’t do overwhelming odds. The result of this is again a overbalance of one faction on WM now due to people turning it off again. It should be like it was back in Cataclysm, no sharding, people could build a reputation for themselves, and people who wanted to pvp could go to a pvp server or flag themselves… warmode is a big BIG mistake.
Can you stop spamming threads?
sharding is the issue for loading into the game with a zerg on top of you, as the game tries to balance out the population of one side for the zerg. But what it comes down to combat racials and greed. The high end players min/max racials, stream/fans follow them, and blizz enjoys playing racial roulette balancing as they make bank.
Sharding - moving some players into another shard of the same server in order to keep the lag down in overly populated areas
CRZ - cross realm zoning to add more players to zones that are under-populated
Warmode - doesn’t seem to know how to take these two features and actually keep people in a stable place (not fading in and out) where the factions can be balanced in numbers
I feel like they failed at using their own tech in Warmode.
I thought sharting was
Sorry I can do what I want…
I never liked the idea of removing PvP servers in favor of sharding. I understand the principle reason for why it was done but I disagree with it and the end results has been bad.
I love sharding, when you spend 2-3 minutes on a high world elite or world boss and then it randomly phases you for no reason?? top notch blizz, pulled the ol’ spicy sharding, how could you give your customer the old spicy shard?
I don’t know what a spicy shard is. Is it related to eating at Taco Bell?
lol pvp servers functioned perfectly fine LOLOL says the Horde player
I dont know about sharding being a problem or not, but I definitely disagree with this point.
I started on a PvP server thinking PvP was going to be fun.
No…it wasnt…at all. Camp ganking basement dwellers made sure of that. So I had to move to a PvE server meaning no playing with players I knew who actually seem to like having their time wasted by the aforementioned campgankers.
Warmode has made it so I could return to daggerspine and play with people I know.
Warmode is fine as it is.
What it sounds like youre saying is that you want to be able to kill players who DONT WANT to PvP.
If you only want to kill those who WANT to PvP…well they have it turned on so whats the problem?
sharding leads to severe imbalances in numbers… at least in cata you could choose if you wanted to opt out of pvp at ANY point if you didn’t wanna be ganked.
I agree that sharding and crz are the main issues with warmode and pvp in general, but there’s no easy alternative to it. They were introduced to help balance server load so there would be less lag and even server crashes as well is bring more people to underpopulated areas. There isn’t some easy alternative to what they’ve already done, despite it being causing issues. There likely won’t be a better solution until technology in general can accommodate.
WM would be fine without CRZ and shards.
Sharding sucks when a raid literally spawns on you. Completely ruins the immersion.
You could opt out on a PvE server, and sometimes not even then with all the annoying ways to accidentally flag, like flagged players purposely running into your AoE farming so they could attack you, or kiting flagged escort NPCs near you. With Warmode you don’t have to deal with any of those Jerks.
On a PvP server, it was even worse - even if you wanted to PvP, but you found out too late that your server’s faction balance is really bad (either at endgame or while leveling), you had to either suck it up or pay for a transfer. And Pre-Cata, if you did that transfer, that was it - you could never bring that character back to a PvP server. It was godawful. And you want to bring all that billshut back?

Yes and the fact that they are trying to keep the game alive on their systems is the reason too.
They need to start from the ground up and they are avoiding doing that by adding in all these systems and stuff.
its like watching a cookie crumble
Remove CRZ and sharding altogether and only use it during expansion launches to help stabilize the servers. Underpopulated zones don’t matter. People want to level faster and grouping isn’t needed so all those extra people just slow you down
As long as players are forced into wpvp, I guess Im good with the setup, whatever it is.
what gets annoying is hearing players that can easily be figured out as the camp ganker sort crying over losing their unwilling victims when warmode went live.
They had NO problem ruining other players games, so Im overjoyed that their own games were ruined by warmode.
I’m more than a little annoyed when sharding forcibly shifts me to another server, especially mid questing. Was doing an Assault the other day where the main boss had just spawned on my server, and abruptly was shifted over MID FIGHT, and had to stand there waiting for him to pop back up.
There’s no reason for that especially in BFA content. It’s one thing in the older continents and for grouping, but knock it off in current content. I was neither grouped or looking to get pulled off my server.
