Very good example, thanks for the link.
And yes, that's not something I would ever enjoy. I prefer lag and disconnects to that.
If someone like that ever happens when I am playing classic wow I am logging off and never logging back on.

you're not a very well informed individual are you?
Blizzard have stated that some features in the demo are purely there for the demo and that's it. sharding will not be in classic.
now if this was the beta then by all means give them feedback but insulting them is never a good way to have you voice heard.
Ah, you didn't read the blue post. They feel that sharding 'might be helpful during the launch.' So yes, they are 100% going to do it despite massive backlash and being informed a year+ in advance that players do not want it.

Glad to hear that!
this totally ruins the classic experience
Sharding!
Thank you for listening to your player base.
- Makes your character and world feel artificial
- Lessens the prevalence for players to create and find value in community and establishing bonds with other and new players they meet in the world.
Example: "hmm... I do not know if I will meet this guy again, why put effort in even caring about him?" - (btw, the opposite is what made vanilla great).
- Subconsciously removes the value and affection you put on your character
- ... thus making you want to spend less time playing the game.
- Destroys the role playing aspect foundation of the game. (Not to be confused with "role playing" on an RP server)
- Makes the world not feel tangible - this is very important (because one factor that made WoW more addicting than a drug was that you felt like escaping real life when entering the realm).
- Technical aspects ruining the experience, for example players disappearing in front of your eyes when joining groups.
- Makes you feel distant from the game.
Thank you for listening to your player base.
this kinda kills making friends on your shard. that was kinda a big thing back then

So, a purist having a bad reaction to something that's supposed to provide server stability is somehow proof that "sharding is bad?"
Try harder.

Server stability? You really believe that lol??
They are a billion dollar company with loads of money coming in every second and you mean to tell me theyre worried about STABILITY over numerous realms???
If this sort of thing is that surprising to you, you clearly haven't worked for a corporation before.
The average server in vanilla had 2-3k people on it.
The hardware has changed. Blizzard doesn't use old-style server blades anymore, they use a cloud.
Nostalrius had 13k on one, rarely crashed and was ran by 15 people doing volunteer work to give people a game they actually wanted.
It was also run on a non-gaming server using an emulator. Apples and oranges.
Your logic is as dumbed down as retail
Look in the mirror.

So you're telling me that somehow over the course of 12 years they somehow can't manage to keep numerous servers stable without sharding? Has technology gone backwards? Oh no but somehow a group of 15 people with not even 1% of the funds blizzard has managed to make it possible and they can't? Interesting. Sounds a lot like they are just trying to cater to the retail players that want to give classic a shot by giving them what they get on retail already. This goes against their statement of "being true to classic wow and having an authentic classic experience".

Again, you've CLEARLY never worked for a corporation before. And you're still comparing apples to oranges.
Stop bringing up emulated servers. They're not even close to the real thing, because they're emulated. Plain and simple.

Correct, I don't work for other people. I work for myself tyvm.
Again, as I said, after 12 years the technology has gotten worse?
"The real thing" Funny how a group of 15 makes a more authentic experience than the people that actually created the game over a decade ago. Seems they've lost their way and should've gave Nostalrius a license to run a REAL vanilla experience rather than shutting it down so they can cater to the retail crowd.

It's not a case of the technology getting worse, it's a case of the technology simply changing and having different requirements. Blizzard's running Battle.net through a cloud server system now, rather than via standard data centers/server blades. They let this slip during the panel when they were talking about how much work went into bringing Classic back.
Now, I'm not an expert, but given the differences in technology, I'm reasonably certain sharding is probably an unfortunate, necessary consequence of moving to the architecture they currently use.
They're not going back to using server blades.

Nostalrius was breaking the law by operating at all. Copyright infringement is a thing. Licensing Nost to continue with their VERY INACCURATE recreation of Vanilla would not look good for Blizzard in the eyes of the courts. Plus, with no Battle.net integration very few people would even know that version of WoW was official.
TL;DR -- I'll believe whatever Blizzard's server engineers tell me over what some nobody on the forums wants me to believe.

They broke the law and all that but Blizzard hired Viper and Daemon (nost devs) to work with them on Classic WoW to help them because their server was so inaccurate, right? Educate yourself.

Looks like much fun, a great RPG experience, LOL.
If this happens in a big battle in stranglethorn or tyrs hand I alt+F4 the game.

According to what you previously said, it would look bad to give them a license, so why admit working with them? Leaks/insiders already confirmed they are working together.
