hi, im in the progress of lvling and learning on a shaman (close to level 60), and have read and ask around to find out that we can go with ele resto 31/20 and still heal well in raids…
i’ve also heard that the T2.5 Stormcaller 5/5 is not ideal for raid heal compared to full T2 Ten Stomps 8/8, some even mentioned full T1 8/8 is viable too…which made me wonder how about 5px T2.5 + 3px T2?
just here wondering if shamans out there bring full T1 or T2 or even T2.5 to end game raids like BWL/AQ40? or are there any other healing gears? also wondering if ele resto 31/20 is good enough for BWL/AQ40…
also, is T2.5 only good and viable/BIS for pvp/bgs? and even if i can use 5x T2.5 + 3xT2, how should i enchant the T2.5? healing or sp?
tyvm!

honestly t2 is a solid pvp set and at this point everyone has theirs. Most guilds are dying for resto shamans so just tell them you want t2 and they’ll most likely just feed it to you

That doesnt apply. Shamans are tanks.

Shamans are not tanks. Not unless you are very specifically talented and geared. And even then a druid is going to do the job better than you, to say nothing of a warrior. However, Wowhead also has BIS lists for Elemental and Enhancement shamans, as well.

Actually they are. Learn2shaman. I can tank any dungeon and I will tank any raid boss. Git gud and learn2play.

Uh-huh. You’re going to try and tell me your shaman will be as effective as a warrior holding down raid bosses? No.

At no point is 8/8 T2 BiS for PVE, you use 3 set and +healing off pieces. 5/5 T2.5 with 3 pc T2 is very good too. IMO a raid should have a mix of both to deliver a better rhythm of raid healing.
8/8 T2 is a fine PVP set as previously mentioned but I enjoy using the ZG set in conjunction.

3 Piece tier 2 is stupidly strong, stormcaller 5/5 with 3 piece tier 2 is godly.
8 piece tier 2 has no place in a raid as it will push tank buffs off.
8 piece tier 1 is a solid healing set but will fall off thanks to lack of throughput/regen come naxx (someone will no doubt prove me wrong on this)
Stormcaller is a good hybrid set for a 31/20 build and covers alot of gaps.
I’m not going to touch the pvp ramifications as it’s something i personally don’t give a damn about.
Thanks guys for all very helpful input, appreciate it
After reading here and there, now I’m targeting 5/5 stormcaller + 3/8 tenstomps for the 30% chain heal on first target…personally I think it’s very solid too.
But I’d like to know the 5/5 + 3/8 is this only good for raid? As suggested by wowhead pvp bis for ele is still 5/5 stormcaller + off piece right? I mean I’m hoping to minimize changing every piece of gear between raid and pvp, hence retaining 5/5 stormcaller for both sounds good to me…used to be super confused with shammy’s gear but now all good (been reading around forums and some suggested different than wowhead ele / resto bis gears hence confused)
You have zero understanding of any raid boss mechanics

Ok
So 5/5 2.5 with 3 piece tier 2 is BIS for chain heal raid healing, however, if you are planning to tank heal you will either want 8/8 tier 1 or a mix of big healing power off pieces and tier 2
Tier 2.5 is the best set for pvp, you technically only need 3 pieces of it for pvp, but all 5 pieces are really good, and the only piece you would likely want to swap out is shoulders for deep earth shoulders, but thats more a sidegrade preference thing. You dont want to use the 3 pieces of tier 2 that you use for healing in pvp besides maybe the belt, those 3 pieces are resto stats and offer nothing for pvp
Tier 2 is solid for pvp but a lot of pieces are resto stats only and suboptimal, the best alternative to using full 2.5 is using 5 piece tier 2 (helm, legs, shoulders, belt, boots,) with the ZG chest piece and some solid spell power bracers and gloves, this specific combo of tier 2 gives you a ton of crit which is important for ele pvp
The build you want to use is 30/21 not 31/20. NS is better than EM in higher tier pvp anyway and EM is pretty much worthless if you’re healing in raids
3 piece tier 2.
Then offslot.
Stormcaller’s is pretty and all, and its great for Ele, but its sub optimal for PvE raiding.
Stormcaller’s set bonus is .4s off chain heal, but has only 143 total spell power in regards to healing and occupies all major armor slots except Gloves.
A Resto Shaman can easily stack near 200 more +healing as opposed to that set bonus.
Moreover those very same 5 primary armor slots only provide 11 MP/5 in terms of regen.
To put it another way, Stormcaller 2.1s chain heal is a 16% increase in HP/sec with a corresponding 16% increase in mana/sec.
However 200+ more + healing equates to 325 to 350 more HPs per cast, regardless of rank used, WITHOUT any additional mana cost.
The mana you save on casting slower, and the additional MP/5 available on offslot over Stormcaller’s can also allow you to uprank Chain heal when necessary.

If you are going to try to do 31/0/20 then 3 pc t2 and 5 pc t2.5 is what you want. Your most effect heal with this spec is chain heal. This item build is the most effective for chain heal as well. If you are going to need to heal anything other than raid you will be a lot less effective. If you get invited into a raid with them knowing your build it should. It be an issue. Plus once you win Lok you can just go ele anyways!

5/5 2.5 with 3 piece tier 2 isn’t the best for general healing purposes but it is absolutely the best set to use for raid healing
You can pump out chain heals much faster than a shaman not using it which is more important than outright healing efficiency for certain fights. It doesn’t Matter if your heals are stronger if they never get a chance to land , and a lot of times that extra power will just translate into overhealing
Ideally you want like 3 shamans using 5/5 2.5 with 3 piece tier 2 that focus solely on healing the raid while having the rest of your shamans use healing power gear and 3 piece tier 2 that are dedicated tank healers with the option to help with raid healing
Chain Heal Rank 1 is 247 mana and a 2.5s cast time.
In reality the cast time is 2.65s per cast due to latency x 2 + input lag + draw lag.
Ie ~22 casts per minute for 5500 mana per minute.
If you were to use Runes, Pots, and Nights Dragons Breath on every available timer up…in addition to front loaded Mana Tide + Mana Spring, in addition to full raid buffs including Food, Mageblood and Oil….then you have about 3m30s to cast chain heal rank 1.
That’s with all buffs and consumes short of a Flask.
Reducing cast time is not an issue…Shamans even with Rank 1 Chain Heal can mana dump just fine.
Look at gear like:
Robes of the Guardian Saint.
Grasp of the Old God.
Don Rigoberto’s Lost Hat.
Salamander Scale Legs.
Bracelets of Royal Redemption.
and so on…
You’re completely missing the point
Its not about mana efficiency
Its about getting more heals out quicker
You shouldn’t ever be running out of mana if you properly downrank and use consumables
A full healing power shaman will not be able to outperform a 5/5 tier 2.5 shaman when it comes to healing aoe raid damage, not to mention the situations where they wouldn’t be able to get a cast off in time to prevent a death
No thats not what im telling you. I’m not saying shaman tanking is equal to warrior tanking but shamans can tank. Learn2play and git gud.
You have no idea what you’re talking about. Git gud and learn2shaman.
