I was thinking of making a new Shaman. The reason being their chain lightning spell. Just because I think it looks fantastic. Looks even better than the force lighting in SW.
But I am worried that my enthusiasm to create a shaman might be rooted in ignorance. Solely based on my chain lightning fantasy.
Also I have watched shaman in groups sometimes pull mobs unintentionally.
My question is then: is chain lightning powerful enough to use all the time as a main attack? Is it too dangerous to use in dungeon groups? Because it might pull too many mobs?
Can chain lightening be made very powerful with the right gear / buffs etc.
Or am I just really off track here.
PS. As a hunter I have learned how to use ranged fighting not to pull extra mobs. I’m thinking that might help.
nah it ain’t so that might change your mind and you have to really try hard to pull extra with chain lightning if you can play hunter without pulling extra you can use chain lightning easily without pulling.

Sadly, no. But I’d certainly play shaman a lot more if they removed Lighting Bolt and buffed Chain Lighting to replace it in the rotation. Especially if Chain Lighting was also ALWAYS castable on the move like LB was during Cata.
I think the DF talent trees would be a good place to make that happen… if they wanted to.
You cant use it in pure ST. Common sense, right?
Also it’s only satisfying when it can chain. Hence the name.
But there are a ton of multi-target scenarios. Pretty much every M+ trash pack. Most raid fights. World content. BGs if you choose to “mid fight”.
I have an Ele Shaman. Chain Lightning does live up to its satisfaction.

It is a nice spell. I like using it as enhance. Between Crash Lightning and Chain Lightning, there is a lot of lightning

Its your aoe spam ability.
Lightning bolt is single target.
If you play shaman they got a bunch of nice spells to cast.
Enh too is more lightning focused.
Both ele and enh use chain lightning.

I play every class at 60 and while I only Enchantment shaman. It is one of my favorites. The crackling and lightning flying around is very satisfying. Definitely use chain lighting a fair bit in ae situations.

lmao it is if you play resto. Its obviously used in aoe only, but amusingly enough I think I use it the most in resto since ele and enh have a lot of buttons that rise in priority over chain lightning at any given moment. Resto however doesn’t have too many fancy options competing with it in aoe, aside from your dps eating fire. Note that ele and enh still do a significant amount of chain lightning in aoe though.

I too use it a lot while doing world content at Resto.
Think how cool a “Divine Toll” for Chain lightning would be. Instead of a bunch of bouncing shields it would be a web of lightning!
