hi all, so I’m new to Shaman and in the learning and leveling process.
Would just like to know what’s the future for Shaman especially in its build and gears, I mostly do raids and BGs all day er day, so I’m very much only into caster role, here I have a few questions:-
can I go for raid and BGs/pvp with the ele/resto build 30/0/21 or do I need to respec to pure resto build for raids? (is 30/0/21 acceptable in raids?)
do I need to prepare 2 set of gears? 1 for healing in raids, and another spellpower for bgs? (this would be very costly and time consuming having to fund 2 set of gears), I was hoping to stick to just 1 set of gear (spellpower) for raids and bgs, is that possible?
does elemental mastery work with chain lightning? (it says only fire, frost, and nature on the description)
is shaman’s managoing to be a real issue having played a lock and mage in the past? (as a comparison since I’ve only played these 2 caster classes before, it’d give me a better understanding when compare with them)
always heard this “if you wanted a pure caster class, you’d go mage/lock”, so i’m not sure if i’ll regret my decision (i personally like the healing role and dont mind healing/nuking in BGs)
I rolled an Orc but often see tauren shammys in raid/bg’s, also frequently being told that tauren shammy is the best etc etc, do they really have much more benefit than an Orc?

I raid 31/20 as a healer, and if anybody has a problem with it, they can continue to have their opinion. I’m not respeccing because they want me to.
I have 2 sets of gear, and my health set was the first one I obtained so I could keep being valuable in a raid environment. I don’t raid dps, I only heal.
Chain Lightning is nature dmg, so yes Chain Lightning works with it.
Mana is a huge issue, and I have mp5 as much as I can to try and balance it out. But you will always need to drink frequently. Just part of being the Shaman.
Play what you want, how you want to play it. Don’t let others dictate how you play a game that you pay for.
Troll is actually the best PVE shaman race because of berserking giving you the extra cast speed, but Orcs have the stun resistance and is better for pvp.
All in all, do what you want. Play how you like, and find a group that let’s you do just that.
1 - 30/0/21 is fine.
2 - Yes. You need more than one set of gear. You might be able to squeak by as functional with just spellpower gear healing, but it won’t be good.
3 - Yes.
4 - Not really if you’re used to mage. You can OOM real fast, but so can mages if you’re not careful. Imagine being a mage but never using your mana gems or Evocation, and that’s shaman mana.
5 - No. Ele shaman is great. Ignore haters.
6 - Tauren is good. Orc is also good. Ignore haters.
So if I’m going to stick to ele resto 31/20…it’s advisable to have 2 sets of gears (cloths) - healing for raid, and so/heal for pvps? how about mh should I get 30sp or 55healing?
sounds like I’ll have more options to roll for gears in a raid compared to lock/mage, and there’s also mail if I ever switch to enhancement one day…
I think I’ll go with pvp more this time, is Tauren or orc better if I’m going to be ele? (think Tauren is better for melee?)
I like bigger classes but also heard a lot about the feel of slower movement speed than smaller races i.e gnomes lol…also heard about the bigger hitbox…hmm
another question, what are the 4 most used totems in raid/pvp? I know wind fury is compulsory in a raid, and grounding is a must in pvp, how about others?
Elemental is by far the best PvP spec. In raids, Elemental/Resto is strong for AQ40 due to the varying (i.e. light) healing demands. It’s not nearly as strong for BWL.
Yes, you need two sets of gear. While there is some overlap, you want a full strength healing set and a full strength dps set.
Chain Lightning is a nature spell.
Yes, it’s a real issue. You’ll need to burn a lot of consumables or have a raid that kills very quickly.
While Shaman do dps, their durability and healing gives them options that don’t exist for a Warlock or Mage.
Tauren are used for PvP, but they’re weak for PvE. Orcs are preferred if you plan to invest in Enhancement while Trolls are better spell casters.
ele is perfectly viable in raids and can top charts if you put in the effort. 31/0/20 is fine and will provide offhealing if needed for certain times in raids.
multiple sets of gear is needed, depending on fight length as that is what ele deals with. more int/mp5 for a longer fight length, vs as much sp and crit as possible for short ones.
ele mastery works with CL and lightingbolt.
shamans mana issues are offset by quick fights, demonic runes, buffs, mana potst, and changing rotation depending on fight while managing mana (think arcane mage in retail type mana management)
pure is always better for less. put in a lot less effort to pull the same DPS as a pure dps class compared to any hybrid, however put in the work and ele can keep up and gives your top 5 dps a run for their money.
orc/tauren/troll iis a wash, its up to you. orc stun resist in pvp is nice, tauren stomp in pvp is nice. troll haste in raids is nice.
