Do you think we’ll ever get to equip swords? Any reason we can’t except it’s always been that way? It seems like with the newer races that can be Shamans, we would have picked it up by now.
Nah. They specifically went out of their way to give rogues Axes in an effort to not open swords to shaman.
Just like how despite the tech being there to turn 1h agi to 1h int and 1h str to 1h int exists, but they will never allow 1h agi to turn into 1h str or vice versa.
I have been wanting this for a long time but no we get excluded from being able to use swords.
If there is any mechanical justification left for it, it’s that giving shaman swords would make Elemental and Resto shaman the only caster class in the game that can equip all Int weapons (except wands, which they seem to have been trying to phase out of the game for years anyway).
Assuming that’s their angle, the compromise solution would be to let us use warglaives. Warglaives are strictly Agi weapons, so they would open up Enhancement options without broadening Ele and Resto’s pool (having warglaives alone would have doubled Enhancement’s weapon pool from keys this season), and shaman have prior lore supporting it, with glaives being the signature weapon of troll shadowhunters.
For spirits’ sake, there’s an entire trash mob hall in Vault of the Incarnates full of shaman Primalists wielding warglaives.
Kind of hard pass, but that’s just my own tastes
There’s plenty of potential justification, like loot distribution and competitive issues. Not everything needs or should be fought over, lest we end up with “Clearly it’s a Hunter weapon” situation, but replace “Hunter” with “Your class (face) here” {You greedy greedy greedy-body}. Having a few items that aren’t shared broadly helps from an drop-economy stand-point.
But nah, none of that. just swords are just too fancy for my idea of a shaman
As you stated its your idea of shaman. Others see us with swords transmoged including thunderfurry. And the lame excuse of
They gave rogues axes. So no that argument is thrown out the window.
There are also some fist weapons that are very similar in appearance to warglaives (the fist of deity comes to mind). Unfortunately I do not have a lot of faith in the designers where shaman is concerned.
Yes, I love that fist! My troll rogue dual wields them in her De Mon Hunta transmog.
First, I agree.
Second, I have no faith in the current WoW Dev team to be creative enough to do this. It’s either not “worth the money and time” the corporate excuse or “doesn’t fit the class fantasy” the boring unoriginal excuse.
It’s the sandbox vs theme park argument. WoW is a theme park for sure, but tries being like a sandbox in some of its mechanics.
If a 2h mace breaks a class that once used it, I doubt swords being on the table is even in the same universe.
Maybe someday it’ll make it on the to-do list. 2H weapons would be fun as well, but probably not as much demand as with FDK. I don’t think it would be a big change to allow 1h swords, except adjusting loot tables and whatnot, don’t think new animations would be needed
Exactly and troll shadow hunters use warglaives and Vol’Jin used one as well.
Shaman is an s word. HA.
Shadowhunters weren’t shaman. They worked with the loa and not the elements. But there should be a Shadowhunters class. using shadow to curse or heal would be cool. And it would bring another class that can use bows
I would love to see a class based on thrown weapons.
Could totally be a ranged warrior spec focused around heroic throw and shattering throw
I would prefer it to be its own class but if its a spec make it a spec for dh since they only have 2 specs. Do not give it to warriors.
Chain Heal, Hex, and dps totems are all spells that came to shaman directly from the WC3 Shadowhunter hero unit. Shadowhunters are one of those awkward NPC cases that lend and take bits and pieces from multiple different player classes, but shaman are absolutely one of the bigger ones.
Shaman deal in communing with spirits in general, not just the elements. We also frequently deal in ancestral spirits, and also with nature spirits, such as Enhancement’s wolves, or - yes - the loa.
“Shaman = Just Elements” is such a reductive take, ignoring so much history behind the class’s development and its place in the setting’s lore, that I’m about to accuse you of being on Blizzard’s shaman developer team.
Sometimes, I wonder what a class-less WoW game would look like. There would be a 300% chance that someone would make a stealth mail wearing lightning-axe throwing gal that turns folks into frogs as an opener.
I mean, I’m not fighting against hunters or paladins for axes, so I at least I got that going for me
Well there are axes that have str and agi. We used to have str for weapons. So I do not think it would take that much to get swords for Shamans check the animations to make sure they are ok. And then turn on swords for us to be used. This is probably over simplified but still would be very easy for them to do.
