Was wanting to start my first alt, and am split between rogue and shaman. Hopeing the fourms can help me decide. What are some Pro’s and Con’s? Note I play on a PvP server and will do alot of PvP on the character.
elemental shamans can melt face and chain lightning is cool.rogues are good for 1v1’s but if you get exposed in a bg or av mass pvp look out you will get burned down fast.i forgot people use spy addon that can tell you if anyone is near.
i like ele shaman.

Shaman to me seems kind of underwhelming. Questing at least enh is a weak spec but it apparently gets better at 40 when you switch to elemental.

I was originally rogue all the way, but last night I was grouped with an ele shaman that was pumping out rediculous dmg.

i got almost all the ele gear for dm its sick damage chain lightning 1k crits,shocks 1k crits and nova totems 1k crits 3k-4k damage in seconds.
ele has sick damage if you dont mind playing another caster id suggest rolling one.
interesting. you actually do say things other than “pvp happened on a pvp server” sometimes.

i know. and after the mass exodus to pve realms with transfers that’s bound to happen then the only people left on pvp servers will be the ones who actually want to pvp.

Ranged classes are more fun in BGs. Healers are always in demand for PVE. Roll rogue if you just want to kill random people trying to grind or you have a guaranteed slot in a raid team.

if you’re just going to quest and grind professions and maybe do some dungeons at end game is it worth it to grind a rogue out?
Depends on the profession. Rogues are pretty great at mining rich thorium nodes in silithus and dark iron in BRD solo. They can probably pick flowers pretty effectively in dungeons as well.

With no buffs, I can crit for 1300~ with Lightning Bolt in mostly Nature’s Wrath greens. It’s so much fun.

Go Shaman.
It is a good class, but takes practice (as, truly, all do to be good). Try not to measure it against other classes because no one always wins in a rock-paper-scissors matchup.
Rather, embrace it for the play experience, learn what you can do and what you can’t. Rogues are a dime a dozen - I play them often myself - but Shamans are iconic of this era of WoW.
(disclosure: I am bad at Shaman, but I always hoped to like it better, and be better at it. At heart I am a lazy player and stick to classes I know I can play well. Be better than me - it’s not that hard. 
)

My main is an ele shaman and my alt is a troll rogue designed for DM:E jump runs, pick pocket farming, and being the number one customer at the red ridge in.
Ele shamans in raiding, dungeons and in large pvp battles (i.e. AV) have a much easier life, as opposed to rogues having much nicer QoL when solo.
Yeah, that’s pretty normal for a geared ele shaman. With about 340 SP, I’m usually top DPS in dungeons with Chain lightning and fire nova “cleave” damage. Against 3 targets a EleM burst does just about 4.5k total damange in 1.5 seconds… for free… every 3 minutes.
Its nice, but I will gladly also dungeon heal any day – too. Raids I always prefer healing. Its easier and less demanding, honestly.
@OP what do you want your alt to do? Do you want a different play style than a caster? Go Rogue. Want to farm money in easier ways such as keeping him planted at BRD? Rogue always a good choice. But shamans can farm hella thorium and arcane crystals solo in dm:e. Want to act as an actual battle mage that can heal at the same time? Shaman. But don’t discount the qol of being permanently invisible can offer as well. That alone makes leveling up an alt a breeze.
You can level as elemental right out of the door. Stack nature damage gear with the rest Int and stam. Both specs sort of play similar anyway until 30 and elemental starts taking off in the later 30’s.
I was getting sustained 300+ dps at level 57 in BRD as elemental. Only a better geared level 60 mage was beating me on long fights. Short fight trash is destroyed by elemental burst. Even so, you still manage totems as 1st priority and don’t bother mana dumping on easy trash.

Sounds good. I’m lvl 31 right now. Think I will tough it out as enhance for a bit but I’m definitely looking forward to make the switch to elemental.
