Did he have aggro? Did the raid treat him as the tank? Then he was the tank. Itâs just a role. Anyone can do it. That doesnât mean it can be performed equally well.

I know how that fight went, and Iâm aware of how silly the beam placement could be without addons (which is why post-WoD bosses were mostly designed around not having such silliness).
Point being, that kind of RNG isnât the RNG Iâm talking about.
If someone roots a Strider on P2 Vashj near a Tank, then not only is the person rooting the Strider an idiot, but the Tank is an idiot for being near a target that can fear them, and now one-shot them. We can call that RNG I guess⊠but thatâs really just player error.
When I say a Shaman canât Tank if they rely upon RNG, I donât mean player error or some kind of unavoidable colliding boss timer that never consistently lines up in any particular order. I mean, assuming everyone playing competently and without error, the boss can still just kill the person trying to Tank unless that person lucks out with RNG such as Parry/Dodge/Miss.
If youâre familiar with Heroic Lich King: Soul Reaper+Melee was the threshold that determined whether or not you were an MT for that fight, not whether or not your raid could handle Valkyrâs or Defile placement.
Yeah. The purpose of this thread is to show you that shaman can main-tank Kara content, not that shaman is better or worse than other classes at tanking. Like⊠this thread is absolutely disgusting now. Lol. Theyâre having fun; they wanted to show you what they accomplished⊠how about yaâll just leave it at that and move on?

He thinks that the shaman was a DPS with a shield that fielded almost all the threat/aggro.
Thatâs fine. I think heâs a mediocre druid. Thatâs also fine.

Gotta pick one, because if this was just a proof of concept fun-run, neat. But if it is proof you can MT as a Shaman, then not at all.

Thatâs not correct according to you. They had a paladin tank who could tank so they had one, but they didnât actually tank, someone tanked who couldnât tank.

Exactly, and thereâs still rng for regular Tanks. Just 3 weeks ago I got enfeebled as Tank on Prince. I had a massive threat lead but it does happen very rarely when Prince phase transitions that he enfeebles random players irrespective of threat - nothing anyone can do if that happens - itâs pure rng. Rare as hell but can happen.
This idea that what makes a Tank is the ability to guarantee success is rubbish. You typically want your tanks to be as reliable as possible sure - but late phase and having a laugh why not try Tanking in dps gear or using a Tanking Shaman?
Edit: I meant multiple players not just one so changed to plural.

This is because he Enfeebled during his RP when he detargets you. It has nothing to do with your threat lead, and this isnât RNG, it is failure on you and your raidâs part. Plus it isnât rare, he hits half the raid with Enfeeble so if you transition him mid-cast then you have a 50/50 shot of immediate failure.
Spoken like someone who doesnât actually understand Tanking and thinks player error is just RNG.
So a boss that a lot of guilds skips determines if someone is a tank or not? Always with the jokes 2nd.

If you die to Netherspite because 10k hits and 15k crushing blows obliterate you, youâre still a Huntsman Tank, youâre just not a Netherspite Tank.
