Didn’t wanna post in the shaman forum because I want to know the opinions of other class players.
A lot of people in sham forum have been coming up with tank ideas, mainly the “Shadow Hunter” which supposedly sorta makes a little sense lore and ability wise?
How do other classes feel about the notion of a shaman tank spec? Hell we sure need SOME kind of a bone lol.
Oh My!! way back in vanilla…shamans could tank a bit and at that time you would of thought they peed in the warriors cereal. So blizzard got out the nerf bat and has been beating shamans all these years[sips a little wine] so badly that I think maybe shaman class designer’s crazy ex girlfriend/boyfriend played one and they have never forgiven the class for it.
Today, I don’t see why they couldn’t tank except for that ex girlfriend/boyfriend
This here. Nobody allowed to tank other than wars during that time. Hell, druids where pretty solid at the time but often got sidelined to resto cause wars and their “needs.”
I would love a shaman tank. I legit thought it was going to happen in WoD because rockbiter did do increased threat. Unleash elements with rockbiter was a taunt. I was so ready.
It would have made sense lore-wise. You go back 30 years and learn the forgotten ways of a shaman from the Draenor OG’s. I mean they gave warriors Gladiator stance. Could have been the same thing with enhancment.
Shamans were supposed to be tanks at one point in vanilla WoW, but they were miserable “tanks” that fell over and died so they made them melee DPS instead. That’s why they can still use a shield, now for cosmetic purposes(and bonus armor but thats not important).
Shaman “tanking” back in the old days, as far as I understand it, was barely proper tanking. Missing key mitigation and threat passives/tools, threat had to be managed in a way it didn’t by actual tanks as a result, etc. More of a “well, they TECHNICALLY can” sort of deal, rather than anyone ever specifically looking for a Shaman to tank for them.
The basis was there, but it wasn’t REALLY a thing, AFAIK.
I wouldn’t mind them fleshing it out into it’s own spec though. It’d fit well enough. But I feel like some folks like to pretend they were a proper tank back in the day when they weren’t.
Shamans could tank 5mans back in Vanilla. As long as you pulled one mob at a time and CCed the rest. Windfury produced an insane amount of threat and as long as you gave the shammy a moment he would hold agro.
They didn’t add the spec to Druids, they separated it, which actually ended up nerfing Druids more than it helped anything.
No, they were always a DPS spec. It just happened that they were capable of mitigating a bit of damage to help in certain circumstances or to pick up as an offtank of sorts. Some well geared ones could sort of tank dungeons, but it was a nightmare on bosses. They couldn’t actually tank, nor were they ever meant to. For a while, even Balance had some tanking properties, but was also never meant to tank.
I dunno how this fits into lore and whatnot, as I don’t really pay attention to lore, but as a huge Avatar tLA fan I always think about how in the show they’d cover themselves in rock (or even metal lol) and just face tank things. Always wished to do that in WoW and that not being a thing is the reason I’m a monk main with a shaman just on the side.
