Shaman Tank, please oh please consider it

People have been asking for this since the game launched. The answer is no.

You don’t even understand that Unholy DK ARE your Necromancers. You are trying to say there should be a “ranged” Warrior, which doesn’t even make sense IN THIS SETTING. What are they going to do? Throw swords at people? Maybe throw a shield like Captain America?

Give me a break.

And now we know you’ve just been trolling the entire time. Thanks for finally showing that.

People will be curious and try it out I’m sure, not totally sold it’ll increase the tanking population but I’d like to think I’m wrong, I’m sure it would depend on how it was all received. As you mention DH seem to pick up on popularity as time went on.

Nothing would be finer than growing the tanking community, AND if Shaman is the class to do it then I’m certainly behind it and would dearly love to try it on my Shammy!

Agreed here. Some consider us to be sword-swinging zealots that worship The Light. We stand against the irredeemable that worship rocks and water. Those that befriend former creatures of The Legion are also unworthy. Collaborators with the evil of The Void are the worst.

Just kidding, we are not zealots, but we are making progress  .

And you don’t understand that Paladins are your magic tank.

Guess we’re both trolling, but at least I’m not confused by the artwork in use.

I think the more classes you have to fill in-demand roles the better. Not sure it would impact how stretched out any classes are if you add a whole new function to the ones that are pretty one-dimensional anyway.

I mean, it’s for sure not gonna happen ever so I’m not gonna die on this hill or anything but it seems like it’s possible at least.

I’m just looking back and seeing we haven’t had a new ranged class added, never gave it much more thought than that until your “ESPer” comment.

Well of course I had to google as I thought you were talking about Starcraft or something!

You smart cookie you, and I learned something today.

Pleasure as always my friend! :grinning:

I would love to see Shaman tanks. In Classic, it’s like they’re almost meant to be able to tank, and I’d really love to see it fleshed out a bit more.

I don’t see why the class fantasy precludes them from tanking. If anything, they have tons of opportunities – what if it’s a class that tanks via control of an earth elemental? What if they use the elements to shield themselves and their allies?

But you missed the previous point: Shaman are more like SpellSwords.

We are casters that also fight with weapons (moreso in the case of Enhance)

That’s why “Paladins are your magic tanks” is just a nonsense line, because there is AMPLE evidence to show that Shaman are MORE equipped to be “magic tanks” than Paladins who are actually tanks who use their FAITH as a bulwark against evil.

See above, as I just explained this, since you are clearly out of your snicker element here.

You are confused about a lot of things. Like what a Paladin IS and ISN’T.

You are also confused about what Shaman ACTUALLY do.

That’s actually the problem though. How do you “flesh out” a Rogue into another spec? It’s 3 melee specs, the fantasy is basically “sneaking, poisoning and dirty fighting” all of which are covered. Even saying “well, Ninja” is “well, Outlaw plus stealth kind of has that covered”.

Mage would be the only one of the bunch where they MIGHT have some wiggle room. The Final Fantasy games have stretched them into many categories that work to an extent (I would argue that Time Mages have a limited niche though).

Aside from that, the other 10 classes (excluding Shaman and Mage here) pretty much have as much as they can handle without heavily cannibalizing the existing spec or changing them in a way that makes the unrecognizable.

Agreed! This is one topic that I wish would go away forever. in the Shadowlands Class Updates, Blizz states the following:

While all Death Knights have some ability to control and reanimate undead minions, an Unholy Death Knight has chosen to specialize necromantic magic, and their abilities should reflect that. All Unholy Death Knights will be able to use Summon Gargoyle (previously a Talent) to bring these flying terrors to their side. Army of the Damned (Talent) returns as an even stronger force with a familiar and faithful recruit—a Magus of the Dead. These formidable magic-wielders have fought side by side with Maldraxxus’ bannermen and their presence rallies Unholy Death Knights’ ghoulish armies, lobbing Frostbolt and Shadow Bolt spells into the enemy. Death Coil and Epidemic casts will reduce Army of the Dead’s cooldown, allowing Unholy Death Knights to summon forth a relentless stream of monstrosities into battle. Magus of the Dead will also fight by a Death Knights’ side when they cast Apocalypse , which also benefits from a cooldown reduction whenever Death Coil and Epidemic are cast. Unholy Death Knights’ Mastery: Dreadblade will benefit both master and servant by also increasing the Death Knights’ Shadow damage and the damage of their ghoulish minions, allowing undead armies to trample all in their wake.

If that is not a necromancer, we do not have mages in the game. End intermission, back to Shaman talk . . .

It was something they also did to a certain effect in Final Fantasy and Guild Wars. The Guild Wars version wasn’t QUITE the same though. More of a hybrid of several things.

A true ESPer would be completely a psionic class, but I can’t think of how they would implement that in a meaningful way in WoW.

They even admitted back when they thought up Death Knights that they took Necromancers and Runecasters and folded them into Death Knight.

In my hypothetical that wouldn’t ever happen it would just be adding more utility to pure classes to perform a role.

Hybrids already have the option to perform at least 2/3 of the triage, with at least one of those roles always having some type of high demand. Wouldn’t even translate to raids or mythics.

If demo and BM = managing pet tanks, mage get some type of shield like disc without the heals, rogue evasion tank without a lot of the mitigation for hits or throw party smokescreens. I wouldn’t suppose they’d do hard content, but at least enough to fill the role and check the mark in queue in face roll content like LFR and heroic dungeons.

Maybe your shaman gear will get to contain more mail armor than dresses.

Of all the nerdy things I’ve seen, this might be the nerdiest of them all. Kudos!

Honestly, I could teach a class, or at the very least do a TED talk on fantasy tropes in media and their inspirations from history and myth with as much as I’ve studied them over the years.

If I could stand public speaking.

Enh was originally going to be a tank spec but then the team scrapped the idea.

I’d rather they didn’t.

As a general rule, any time Blizzard changes shamans, it’s for the worse.

Or at least let enhance offtank with a shield and aggro ability again

Shamans tank dungeons sometimes in vanilla and BC. But that was because we all had no idea what we were doing and classes didn’t come with shield icons.
