Baelgrim npc is a shaman tanking the first dungeon, he actually makes it look possible to do. I always thought this idea was bad and abandoned entirely but he makes “shaman tank” actually look fun.
It exists in Season of Discovery
as long as they make it a separate spec and don’t ruin Enhancement anymore then it already is I’d be fine with Shaman tanks.
I thought he was the healer in the dungeon
He’s super powerful and one shots really strong enemies but also takes a lot of damage himself
0 interest in any form of old wow, too grindy for me. But I heard dps specs were tanking.
That’s not the point, the point is, they already experimented with a shaman/rogue/warlock full tank spec, and mage healers in another version of WOW.
To be honest, I can’t see a reason not to add those spec to those classes one day, it works and it’s fun.
Its not confirmed.
Its not even hinted at.
Isn’t he a Mountain Thane Warrior?
The mage healers in SoD are just knock off retail disc priests
There have been datamined Shaman tagged spells that have a threat modifier and Thrall with a shield, so odds are we likely will see one in 11.1.0 or 11.1.5.
Rogue tank is… special… lets not add it to Retail.
Mage Healing is just Disc Priest.
Shaman and Warlock tanks have been the most well received and are very fun to play. Shaman Tanks are likely coming because of Datamining and I wouldn’t be surprised if Warlocks can be tanks again (seeing as you needed them to tank in Vanilla and they could tank in MoP).
I tried tanking Garrosh on my warlock, didn’t end too well.
Follower dungeons don’t seem to follow game rules much. Like in the DF ones Capitan Garrick the tank is a Paladin in the dungeons, but a Warrior in game.
Both Paladin and Warrior have tank specs though.
And switching between warrior and pally tank specs is something you can’t do in game, just like tanking as a shaman. Which is why I said the rules don’t seem to apply to follower dungeons.
Shamans could tank in Classic to a limited extent it was actually possible but they decided to make Enhancement a full dps spec and removed the tank aspects in TBC when they made Blood Elf Paladins
Well you can do that, it’s called alts
But in all seriousness some dev probably forgot what class they were beforehand after all Follower dungeons weren’t added at DF launch and both specs are Protection after all.
However having Baelgrim be a shaman tank seems intentional. You hover over him in the dungeon and it shows you that his class is a Shaman and he is tanking.
We also have datamining that shows new Shaman tagged spells and abilities that have an increased threat modifier and datamining that suggests Thrall might be using a shield (and be a Shaman Tank).
Furthermore… remember how we datamined the 3rd Evoker spec on launch of DF lol.
Because he is the main npc character in the questlines leading up to the dungeon and all of the Stormriders seem to be Shaman. It’s really just a story thing and NPCs not needing to follow game rules.
It’s more likely a progaming thing. Pallies have better ranged agro generation because of their shield throw and are probably much easier to progamas an ai tank. And since they wanted to keep the Exiles Reach characters, she was the easier of the two to swap to pally.
Ya true that’s also very plausible.
Doesn’t mean he needed to be a tank shaman. He could have just been a DPS and have another NPC be a tank.
It’s highly likely we will be getting Tank Shamans in 11.1 or 11.1.5 given we got Augmentation Evokers in 10.1.5 and we were datamining them since DF launch.
Now we have Datamined new Shaman Tank related spells and abilities (because Blizz has a hard time with these sorts of things under wrap, this is how we knew we had a underground zone in 10.0 and a emerald dream raid in 10.1).
