Shaman QoL Changes

Since Blizzard said there won’t be any large class changes in the coming 8.2 patch, I thought I’d at least try for a few Quality of Life updates. Here are just a few little things that could at least make every day shaman life better, and maybe get a little goodwill:

  1. Take tremor totem off of the GCD. So many fears are quick cast, or even instant, and when you are unable to get the totem off because you’re already GCD locked, it’s frustrating and makes you look bad.
  2. Make Water Walking castable while mounted. DKs have been able to cast a group Water Walking buff while mounted since the beginning, and with everybody else getting access to it through equipment, it’s about time Shamans were brought up to speed by letting us also cast it without having to dismount.
  3. Make Echo of the Elements base-line for Elemental shaman. Leave it as a Resto talent, where it affects 3 different spells, and give the other Row 1 Ele talents a chance (Elemental Blast and Earthen Rage). Replacement talent idea: Rekindling - Lava Burst refreshes the duration of Flame Shock on it’s target. (Now ascendance doesn’t have to re-cast flame shock, and skilled shamans can multi-dot flame shocks again)!
  4. Bring back Mana Tide Totem! Restoration need this iconic totem ‘restored,’ even if it’s in the form of a talent.

There are plenty of other things that could be fixed, and I’m sure arguments could be made for more important and/or complex things, but I’m just going for quick, easy, quality of life changes that can be thrown in to 8.2, in lieu of a larger overhaul.

Skilled shamans are already maintaining multidot flame shock on 4 targets.

Hint: refresh at 7-8 sec left for max effect.

Ele really doeant need any QoL changes. It is in a really good spot already. Tier 1 is the least of our concerns; as if/when IP gets nerfed ER will be back to top pick.
The tier 100 row is the one that is completely lopsided. UP is taken 0% of the time and Ascendance just slightly above that.

If you want to shake up the talents make SoP a pvp talent and bring back HV.

Resto is already the one if not the most mana efficient helaer. Mana tide isnt necessary when you just add a ret (who is above avg) and then you never go oom as resto.

Echo of the Elements baseline would make every talent configuration feel so much better. I’d replace it with something that works better with Ascendance. Say, “Lava Burst now hits each other target with Flame Shock at 50% damage”.

It’s actually a bit embarrassing that you can’t Water Walk while mounted. That tech has obviously been around since Wrath, and has felt like it’s just been withheld for “reasons”.

Madalynn is totally right about UP, though. That thing needs to get reworked. It felt okay back when I was testing 8.0 changes on my Legion shaman, but everything else these days works better. Disagree about HV, though; that was a pretty boring RNG boost.

The important thing is making EoE baseline, not so much the talent that replaces it.
I agree, UP is garbage, and would love to see something better there, but how much can we expect in a patch without any major class changes?
Mana Tide isn’t only about buffing your own mana, it’s about fulfilling the support class fantasy for your other raid-mates or BG-mates. It was a great talent to have in Classic, and would be a great talent to have again now. That’s why I suggested it as a talent, so if you don’t raid, or don’t BG, or don’t have a pocket-pally, you can take something else more useful for yourself.

Make overcharge baseline and replace the talent with ele blast

id rather wait for a much needed rework for enhancement shamans a complete spec redesign.

it is much needed.

It isn’t an either/or situation. I am aware that shamans need a lot of love, I am just asking for some minor changes to improve life for shamans in a patch where Blizz has stated that they won’t be doing massive class changes.

(Here’s another one: Let us cast Astral Shift while stunned).
