Shaman needs a tank spec. Enhancement would work

As the title says.
Id like to be able to run as tank but Im having too much fun with shaman to swap now.
Seems like enhancement could easily be made into a tank.
Or just a new tank spec.
Either way.

Too lazy to look up.

Couldn’t shamans be a tank before…?

Adding tanking capability on top of the dps spec via talents or something… maybe.
Replacing the dps spec with a tank spec… HELL NO!

No, just add a fourth spec like druids have. No sense ruining enhancement further

+1 for a two-handed tank shaman.

2h shaman tanks should have happened forever ago.

edit: Also, enh shamans can tank 5 mans in classic, some raid bosses.

Id prefer a fourth spec.
It’d be cool if they could use totems for tanking, somewhat like the BM monks black ox statue. Course, I dont want it playing like monk, though.

In Classic, shaman can tank until about level 40. Remember, the only class with a taunt was warrior.

This isn’t quite right.
Shamans could tank MC and ZG. There’s clips of it. One of their shocks functions almost like a taunt, earth shock I believe.

Also, bears have growl.

Yes they have… in a way sub-optimal fashion.

AWESOME… but sub-optimal.

Kinda like Feral tanks, God-bless-them.

Feral tanks are actually better at the start of MC than warriors due to their BiS pre t1 scaling better with direbear armor multiplier, with the exception of Magmardar, of course.

That said, warriors pull ahead quickly and stay ahead. Even though bears gen more threat per second than prot warriors, fury prot can put out even more threat per second and has a very similar net mitigation as a bear druid.

Not effectively. If I remember right, it was essentially a threat+ to rockbiter and Shield D.

Okay, so let’s say we go back in time and are tasked with giving Shaman a tank spec.

What do we do? Just a taunt separate from Rockbiter, and some Crit protection?

Rockbiter, + parry + dodge till you push off crushing blows, spell power for super high threat earth shocks.
For bosses, you’d want to use a slow 2h for higher threat / dps cap.
For trash, you’d want to use a 1h/shield for higher mitigation per hit.
(Note, this is exactly how fury prot works, too)

You’d have to keep up stoneskin potions etc.

If blizz wanted to make it “work” on retail, applying rockbiter to weapon should give you +armor to bring you up to bear armor.

Heres how i would imagine it:

-Two handed (though we lack 1h/shield tanks tbh)

-stoneclaw totem works like the black ox statue for monks, taunting anything that isnt attacking the shaman.

-self buff: stoneskin
Increases your armor, works like ironfur or bone shielf or demon spikes.

-earth golem as a permanent “pet” akin to frost mage water elemental

-mastery: earthwarden
A percentage of damage you take is instead redirected to your earth golem.
Using earth spells heals your earth golem for a percentage of damage done.

-a variety of earth based spells:

Earth shock: single target maelstrom spender, generates high threat
Earthquake: aoe maelstrom spender, generates high threat

Stone shards: fires a volley of stone spikes at all enemies in front of you. Maelstrom generator.

Rockbiter: single target, maelstrom generator.

Upheaval: blasts all nearby enemies with spikes from under their feet, throwing them backwards and stunning for 4 seconds.

Burrow: replaces ghost wolf form. Burrow through the ground. While burrowing your armor is increased but you cannot take any actions other than movement. When burrowing and not in combat, you gain stealth.

This is what should’ve been done during the Class Fantasy revamp that Blizzard did. Rather than destroy some specs to crowbar “fantasy,” they could’ve just added additional specs to each class.

Some interesting ideas in here!

I played an earth tank in dcuo, their mitigation came from splitting damage with their golem pets

God, this thread is making me remember a Maradon run I did 14 years ago with my best friend, who played a shaman.

We couldn’t find a tank, but he had the warden staff! We cleared it with a shaman tank, easy.
