I’m looking to play shaman this season.
I see Elemental uses haste and Resto uses mastery, but I like to play multiple specs.
So my question is: Would ele’s rather have it wrong by going mastery, healers have it wrong by going haste, or something more split down the middle?
I’m not looking to push 2400 or anything like that; I’m more of an 1800 kind of player.
I personally go Haste so it’s useful in multiple specs.
On Resto I run the Storm Conduit PvP talent so that my lightning casts reduce the cooldown of most of my totems and major defensives by 4 seconds a cast. Haste helps me get more casts / less chance of being interrupted; I find this helps make up for the loss of mastery because my totems also tick faster and I get almost double the amount of them (this includes getting like a 1 min cooldown on healing tide totem as well) vs having them hit harder on heals from mastery.
I’ve found, compared to S2 where I was mastery stacked, that my healing comes out to be roughly the same, just more done through totems. I also get an advantage where I’m also pumping out 100’s of millions in damage each BG and able to spin nodes and such better as well. The only disadvantage I’ve seen is less big single target burst heals for topping up low health allies.

For ele-resto shaman in particular i would personally go 50-50 haste mastery. While haste is best up to a point, mastery is still a good stat for ele, and same for haste with resto, so going 50-50 wouldnt feel bad on either spec, compared to going heavy on one the other spec would feel a little gimped. You could also switch out just a jewelry piece or two between them to go 60-40 between the specs
Id get 20% haste then run pure vers/mast on non-tier pieces
