I haven’t leveled a shaman since OG classic and man it’s painfully boring. I was hoping at 30 it would be better cause WF seems really awesome in theory but for leveling it’s not very good. Even with corpsemaker majority of fights no WF and your just standing there auto attacking because all your spells take way too much mana.
I’ve been reading a lot of guides saying to switch ele at 40 and just wondering what others have been doing? I assume you with dual spec most just go ele/resto and never look back.
Is there a such thing as a 60 enhance shaman in classic? Does storm strike make the gameplay a lil more enjoyable?
TLDR: enhance is boring does it get fun?
WF is fun but the randomness of it is also frustrating. Ele burst combo at lvl40 is on demand so you always get value instead of overkill. You drink a lot more but kill mobs so much faster it’s worth it.
I would go ele/resto, just invest in a cheap set of green of the eagle gear to get started at 40. Ele is great for endgame PvP and resto is every melee dungeon group’s favorite healer.

Not since the “Shaman Update” in vanilla… they over buffed ele and nerfed Enhance out of existence.

See, this is why I laugh/scoff when people say “oh how can you level a Paladin they’re so boring”
Shaman w/ no WF hits?
Frost Mage spamming FB?
Warlock spamming SB?
Priest Shield > Pain > Wand?
Like all of those are SOOOOOOOO much better, right?
Sorry my lil rant
fast main hand weapon + flametongue weapon
open with Flame Shock (or Lightning Bolt / Chain Lightning)
stab stab stab stab stab stab
close with Earth Shock

That’s not how warlock levels. It’s apply DoTs then drain or wand.
Mages can do AoE pulls, warlocks can juggle mobs with fear, other classes probably can challenge themselves in some ways …
But yes, everything is boring and repetitive at a point, just different kinds of repetitive. Some specs are burst then eat/drink, some are slow and steady.

Oh sorry. So just like Priest. Dot > Wand.
It’s all boring and slow lol

You want to use Rockbiter Weapon as a Shaman instead of Windfury Weapon while leveling for the guaranteed bonus Attack Power on each hit, versus the chance Windfury will proc. It’s even said a one-handed weapon and shield is the fastest way to go for less downtime drinking water and eating food. Earthshock, Strength of Earth Totem, and Lightning Shield are your friends.

So here’s my experience so far:
1-20 is about the same for all classes. Run a staff if you’re wanting to 2h. Make sure you start putting points into improved ghost wolf early so you have it 2/2 by 20.
2h weapons honestly aren’t that great for leveling. I always keep a 1h/shield in my inventory as well as my 2hander.
The 1h/shield saw a lot more use at most levels. I bring out the 2 hander for casters and enemies that do nonphysical damage (like water elementals).
Windfury is awesome… when it procs. However it’s infuriating when it doesn’t. Most of the time rockbiter is going to outperform it when soloing, even with a 2hander.
20-30 wasn’t too bad pace wise, I tanked several dungeon runs with 1h/shield enhancement which helps power through the levels.
30-40 was a slog, quick at first but it gets agonozingly slow around 38/39. I highly recommend thunder axe fortress in desolace as a grinding spot for these levels, the enemies there don’t run away and die super easy to physical damage. Only have to be careful with the dual wielding felsworn which you often get 2 at a time there, use the 1h/shield and drop stoneskin totem for them.
At 40 with stormstrike and a good 2hander and mail armor, things start to pick up. The mail makes up for not using a shield, and stormstrike increases your odds for windfury procs.
I recommend mostly aiming for areas with mobs 2-3 levels below your level. They give less xp, but you kill much faster since you crit more often (and thus have flurry up more, which means more windfury proc chances).

Some other tips
Slot rank 1 earthshock for a cheap interrupt. Avoid using frost or flame shock if you don’t absolutely need to. Use lightning shield for efficient damage, and try not to cast much so your mana can regenerate.

2H Enhance is not my cup of tea.
I love the TLC Enhance get for TBC and look very much forward to my dual wield enhance shaman.

Its not much different in Retail. Just in retail you maintain shadow weaving and play wack-a-mole on near every class while building / spending combo points of some kind.
Yep.
Builder spender builder spender.
Retail is a joke.

YUP, everything became some format of Rogue, Warrior or Mage with the trappings of shadow priest and warrior debuff / buff / proc chase.
Worse the buffs / debuffs and procs are so important that the abilities are pitiful without them, and you have to stack that with the offensive or defensive CD for your abilities to do anything in the first place.
Basically they hide the fact that its the same old game just with 10 layers of BS stacked on top to make it look complicated.
Meanwhile most of them use macros, AHK or bots to play their class anyway completely circumventing the whole idea of even playing the class while “flexing” about how perfect their ability execution is… oh wait… they’re not really playing… ooopseeeee.

super fun, 1 that that would be nice tho is having stormstrike give back mana. might be worth getting XD
Im leveling as resto , it takes a while to kill things while questing , and i can’t have more than 2 mobs at a time but i get into dungeon groups heck a fast . The problem is its with a fury tank who just wants to stay in berserker stance
.
Leveling as resto is 4/10 experience
Not true. If you swing at least 3 times per battle you should be getting windfury about every other battle because math.
Not really. It’s one of the worst DPS specs in the game. Elemental is better (but also still not good). If you really want to DPS in raids I’d recommend a different class.
Can be fun in PvP when you get lucky windfury crits. But it’s a slot machine. Very unreliable.

I went on wowhead and read the shaman guide for hardcore. Has many great tips.
I’d just grind dungeons as Resto/Enhance hybrid spec. You’ll basically have instant group invites all day
