Shaman in Cloth Gear

So i know there are some forums out there with similar conversation but I just wanted a clear answer regarding Classic WoW. Is it frowned upon for a Resto Shaman to roll on cloth gear that is an upgrade, or even Enhancement on leather? I do not want to step on anyone’s toes and I am assuming the 5% mail specialization does not exist in Classic.

Nope it’s normal for a resto/ele shaman to roll for cloth/leather .

it’s normal for resto, but ele shammans aren’t normal, weird really to play ele over enhance.

You will be in cloth a lot, until dungeon sets. And even then…

No mail specializing.

Any (healing) Druid, shaman or pally not wearing any cloth is probably doing it wrong, and anyone worth playing with in Classic already knows this or will be grateful to learn something new about the game.

I’ve actually had a few mages mad at me for taking Int items, while I am healing, and I told them that I earned it just as much as them.

It’s easy to tell who played back then and who didn’t because people seem to have this mindset you must wear your max armor class.

Ele is the end game spec for PvP .

int is fine but spell damage gear is a wtf. ill ninja healing gear if that happens lol.

Yeah this is a debate that hasn’t changed a whole lot over the years.

Mage gear? Priest gear? Shaman gear? Pally gear?

Hunter gear!

armour types weren’t even a thing back then. what mattered were the stats, whether it be a cloth robe or a skimpy leather vest

Unless you’re a tank, it’s normal for everybody to prioritize gear for its stats rather than its armour type.

I’m not worried about ele shamans rolling on spell damage gear because im not playing with ele shammans lol, but if an enhance or resto takes spelldamage it’s a wtf.

what’s frowned upon is a shaman not level’ing as ench, or thinking he need to be resto to heal instances…

The only problem with that argument is I can’t roll on leather/mail/plate gear… I guess that’s what I get for rolling a mage.

Shoulda rolled a Pally so I can roll on everything.

Edit:

Oh wait… this is classic. The game DOES allow me to roll on plate? No? I haven’t tried! LOL

i leveled my shaman alt in vanilla as an elemental. It allowed me to gear as a caster, and sideline as a healer in leveling dungeons. but i never took cloth as i always had a decent set of caster mail. main was a DS LW and blue dragon armor was great for a shaman.

Some mages have react in a bad manner when if rolled for int cloth gear (i was the healer ) i guess this kind of people dont know how gear works for classic wow they have the mind set of “you can only roll for leather”

However in most cases this doesnt happend when i say at the start of the run “ill need int gear”

On the other hand iv seen tanks warrios rolling for 2 handed weapons and get furious when i win the roll i mean we are both rolling for a spec we are not using in the dungueon. I find this sooo funny

Pd: pls dont make me talk about hunters ive already have bad experience with them

And for that matter perfectly normal for Holy Pally’s to roll on literally anything with spellpower lol. It’s going to be a while (maybe never not a shaman gear expert at all) before you are rocking out full mail gear.

no one care if you roll for better primary stats, but taking spell damage is a big nono.

There isn’t a problem with that. Just because you as a mage means you can only wear cloth, don’t think for one second my Holy pally isn’t going to roll on anything with Int or Spirit on it.

There are cloth gloves with Str on them in DM. Retail gear rules don’t apply.

spell power is divided between healing power and damage, pally rolls damage he’s blacklisted.
