Im seeking out more knowledge for my friend who is enjoying his ele shaman. The issue is, even at ilvl 190 I feel as though he is performing ( dps wise ) very poorly. Even in CN pugs hes lower middle in damage when I know he should be outdpsing certain players.
I reviewed his character and even had him try some addons that may assist him in his rotation ( he seemed to had a good gist of it ) and it improved a bit. He struggled to perform in dps in a +3 Plaguefall on the slime bomb, but he was decent in Sanguine Depths (hes more comforable in that dungeon)
Here is his profile : https://worldofwarcraft.com/en-us/character/us/illidan/totemtoez
I feel that his mastery stacking can be the culprit. If its not his stats, could it just be playstyle? Any feedback would help.

Depends on the fights and what not. Ele doesn’t do well with movement. They brought back spiritwalkers grace which is nice for movement but outside of that lava surge procs and ice fury empowered frost shocks are the only other things we really have for damage on the move.
His dps and what not will go up even more with next weeks world boss when he gets the BiS single target legendary as well for raiding and what not.
Edit: Also stat wise for AoE haste and crit shine. Most shamans will tell you mastery is the worst stat because it doesn’t affect our spenders.

Hey glad your friend is enjoying the class. Without logs it’ll be kind of hard to tell what he’s doing wrong. Is he making use of the Master of the Elements talent? Is he using Stormkeeper on cd. Is he using Primordial Wave on cd. He does have the EarthQuake legendary. Is he using the empowered EQ on his single target rotation? Is there any moments where he’s just not casting anything while standing still?
There’s a lot of things that can go wrong in the rotation and every little thing will add up towards the dps loss. Especially in raids and M+ where you rarely will just stand there uninterrupted doing your Single/Multi Target rotation. For starters, I would recommend running Aftershock instead of Echoing Shock as that is one less button to press. For strictly single target, Ele Blast/Ice Fury will net you higher dps, but its a bit harder to master. For Plaguefall, make sure he’s utilizing Primordial wave for the slimes. Also Fleshcraft will give a nice buff to the group if he uses it on the slimes.
