Shaman dual wield skill, Lava Lash rune, and runes not offered by the rune vendor

My Shaman was missing the dual wield ability. At first I didn’t even know it was missing, because I didn’t know Shamans could dual wield. The skill was not available at the trainer nor at the rune vendor, so I had no idea anything was missing at all.

Well, it turns out that the Dual Wield skill and the Lava Lash rune ability come from the Stalk With the Earthmother questline in Thunder Bluff. Unlike most rune abilities, the quest teaches it to you directly. It goes right in your spellbook. There isn’t a rune item that you click to learn.

So, are there any other rune abilities like this, where there is no actual rune item and you just learn it directly from a quest, thus there is no rune to be purchased at the vendor? I wonder what abilities my other characters are missing.

I think I remember reading there were like 3 or 4 like that. Let me see if I can find the info…

Yeah, rogues need to finish a certain quest for a certain rune so they can eventually go get the bis dagger.
Pallys also need to finish a quest for something iirc. That’s off the top of my head.

Double check, not all abilities are “runes”. Some are totems / relics you need to equip and then click again.

Those are purchasable at the rune vendor.

But the ability I mentioned, Lava Lash, isn’t an item at all. It is taught to you directly by the quest.

probably not a bug or anything so it is likely they just can’t put it on the vendor as it has no item to learn. you also wont have dual wielding to use it without the quest anyway.
