Shaman Don't Use Totems Anymore?

I have noticed that in the groups I have been in Shaman don’t Drop totems anymore.
Don’t Shaman use totems now? And if they don’t, why don’t they?

Depends what they’ve specced into.

healing tide, capacitor, mana tide, wind rush, healing stream. I use them all. Bad shamans don’t use totems.

I like the healing totem and extra buffs you can take (talents) from it, which is useful for Ele adn Enh. So I drop at least one totem.
But totems are not what they were.

Maybe a bit of an overstatement. While I’m no expert I have played a lot of enhancement this expansion. And frankly it can get chaotic sometimes. You’re hard pressed to find an opportunity in your rotation to drop any totems.

My shaman (all resto) use totems all the time.

If you want to use totems a lot you have to heal.

Similar to Druids where if you want to shapeshift a lot you have to heal.

You deserve that cookie. I like hearing when people play their classes properly.

Why thank you!

I am a bit confused but the OP thought because I’ve never been in a group where a resto shaman didn’t use healing totems. I suppose it’s possible but… it’s pretty basic.

Totems were changed mostly to cool downs instead of buffs you have to move and recast every 20 seconds.

They were good days. I remember having to drop 4 totems at once and then relocate or recast each pack. Good times. I still don’t mind the way it is now though. Change is good.

Being able to relocate them and drop 4 at once didn’t even come until later as well (I forgot which expansions, they aren’t in vanilla).

To put it nicely: they suck and are mostly pointless.

They are stationary, take away from APM, not really beneficial, and have a limited range, plus take away talent points that could be used elsewhere.

Yeah, I played priest through vanilla to wrath, then huntard during wrath, then can’t remember what I played in cata. So I’m not even sure when they implemented it. I’ve played resto shaman for a long time now though.

Excuse me! capacitor totem is fairly useful. Don’t forget tremor totem for when no one interrupts.

Not even sure what elemental or enhancement has. So we could argue that point I guess. But I don’t want to.

I still drop windfury out of stubborn habit but yeah they’re pretty pointless for Enhance at least.

I use them all the time when healing as resto.

I was going to make a captain planet joke, with our powers combined, you can be earth, I’ll be fire, then I realised how cringe that is and still don’t understand why I’m still typing this. I’ve had beer, I have an excuse.

The Shaman in my group wasn’t using them until I totem to. I guess he forgot.

Enhance Shaman do (or rather, they should), Elemental Shaman maybe not so much (at least, not in raids or dungeons).

Because it got tedious dropping 4 totems every 10 feet.
