Shadreen the Void Ethereal *8.1.5 Spoilers*

(Spoilers for the new Brawler’s Guild Questline Ahead)

Most of this is taken from a wowhead news post here, but posted here so people can discuss it. For more in depth info, feel free to check wowhead for the full info/speculation.

So for anyone who hasn’t been a hawk-eye, there’s been a female void ethereal randomly in the game since 7.3.5.

She was hidden inside of Telogrus Rift, the Void Elf starting area, through a portal. The guards tell you not to go further, but if people ignored that and used a goblin glider to glide to another island, and you waited long enough, you would see her spawn. She would say nothing, and she’d disappear 20 seconds later.

However, she also appeared in another location - Trial of Style. Randomly, she’d appear at the end of Trial of Style and ask the host if they collected the requested data, then remark that her master will be pleased.

Since then, we haven’t heard from her. Until now. In 8.1.5, there’s a new questline in the Brawler’s Guild, in which there’s a Murder Mystery. Essentially, throughout the course of the questline, you find a note in which you find out Shadreen is behind the murder.

Before this, however, we also find out that one of the other people in the guild is harvesting souls from the fighters that we kill. Using what, you might ask? A being that looks a lot like Yogg-Saron.

Wowhead also points out that Shadreen is known as the Watcher, and the NPC we kill that drops the note revealing Shadreen as the orchestrater of the murder is The Blade, and the last time we saw that naming convention was Xalatath.

We never deal with the Yogg-Saron lookalike either.

So what exactly does this mean? Are the void lords closer to Azeroth than we believed? Is this a set up to the Void becoming the end boss of BFA, leading into a full scale Void Lord expansion? Are there more Void Ethereals on Azeroth than Locus-Walker and Shadreen? Why were we warned about Locus-Walker, who has turned out to do nothing but help us, but not Shadreen in that case?

As I avoided most of the post besides under the line…

The Forbidden seas has some mysteries, there was a faceless one controlling naga.

I never knew about the rift location.

This is all pretty cool stuff. Kinda gives that eerie, creepy feel to the story. Makes you want to know more. I love lore like this. Very intriguing.

I always believed that the next expansion would be void related. Perhaps it could come true? Who knows?

Doesn’t surprise me that Ion is evil.
